This one is about 2 years old, and just started having this problem with it a couple months ago. With a full 7 rnd mag, it will stuff the rnd up into the barrel as pictured below. I have tried 4 different brands of ammo, 3 different types of factory mags(kimber, wilson and colt) and have also swapped the recoil spring to a wolffe 18.5lbs. The pistol only does this on the on the first or second rnd., meaning I can load only 5 rnds and it will work flawless as advertised. This occurs about 70 to 80% of the time when racking the slide or hitting the slide release. The thing that puzzles me is if I load 1 round in the chamber and then insert a full mag of 7 rnds it will fire through the entire mag without a hiccup?? Whats going on here?

Can we see the relationship between the extractor and the cartridge?

Also, "bubba loading" - putting one round in the chamber manually and letting the slide go forward - is not good for 1911s.

Not bubba loading, Im loading 5 rounds letting it strip 1 take the mag out and top it off.

I'll get a pic of that later tonight or tomorrow when I get back to town.

With the mags you have tried it looks like there may be to much extractor tension, not allowing the cartridge rim to ride up the breechface. Give Kimber a call.

WOW, this is very strange because last night I went to the range with my NEW kimber pro carry II and my gun did the same thing that yours did but i didnt take a pic. The first round or 2 would give me a FTF looked the same as yours. I to tried 2 colt mags and my kimber mag and still did the same thing. I asked my buddy who owns the range what he thought and he said I was "limp wristing" I said he was full of S*&t. I was going to call kimber today and see what they thought! If you figure it out let me know to. Also I was using WWB ammo. First 50 rounds thru this gun and I wanted to throw it down the range! Not happy with my first 1911 or my first Kimber.

Kimber extractors aren't the greatest and they don't spend too much time at the factory tuning them properly, in my experience.

My experience-do not associate the brand of magazine with reliability. My Kimber problems went away with +10% mag springs from gunsprings.com. I almost sent 2 Kimbers in for service needlessly. They are both perfect now.

i would try greaseing the rails or running it very wet and make sure it's not a lube issue.

Tried that to begin with. I didn't get a picture of it, but you can tell the bullet is angled up too much. Twice when I ejected the jammed round, it pushed the bullet back into the case a good 1/8 or more inch.

I had similar failures with my Stainless Pro Carry II and WWB. I solved mine by breaking the sharp edges on the sides of the chamber mouth.

Not my pic...

Mine did it right from the start, though. If it had been fine for the past two years, your problem was probably different than mine.

I would also look at the extractor given OP's issues just started after flawless function. I don't hold Kimber extractors in high regard. When they have issues replace them with something Wilson.

Depending on how much you have shot your pistol in the past 2 years, it might be time to replace your recoil spring.

Also, check that the breech face of the slide is clean and that there is no debris under the extractor. If the round can't slide smoothly across the breech, it can cause the stoppage you're experiencing.

if it's an external extractor and you find the extractor ends up being the issue some how, I put an ar15 detent spring down the middle of the original extractor spring. I's a bear to get the back plat back on but I haven't had an issue since I did the mod.

My ultra has started doing the same thing! It only happens when using the slide release on the 1st round! I can easily push the slide forward and then it functions fine!

****UPDATE****

The extractor was the culprit. Feeds like a champ everytime now.

87GN nailed the problem right off the bat.

Glad it was a simple fix. My Kimbers taught me how to tune 1911 extractors
