Kimber Fans, I just bought an used Kimber SIS 4 inch barrel and I read good things about this gun when it first came out, however this is basically my first Kimber. Anything I need to know about it?

Only thing I can say is welcome to the group and now that you own one you'll own many, many more.

I use a 5" SIS as my duty weapon and love it.

You will need a paper clip or something to take the weapon apart for cleaning. First bend the paper clip into an L shape. Remove magazine, lock the side back, insert paper clip into the little hole in the guide rod, release slide, let it slam forward, and then you can take it apart. The paper clip will hold the recoil spring and guide rod together. Also I found the slide serrations to be too slippery on the SIS models, I would add some grip tape to it or something. Maybe pick up some extra mags, i like the Tripp Research Cobra mags the best.

Great gun IMO. One of Kimber's few Series 70 pattern guns after going with their SII line.

If you have any problems, replace the recoil spring with a Wolff. Mine crapped out early. Have 1500+ on my Wolff spring in my Compact.

I have the SIS Custom. It's a great gun. I'll never sell it. The only issue I had was with FMJ ammo hitting the inside part of the slide stop. It would cause the slide to lock back with rounds still in the magazine. You could see copper on the slide stop where the tip of the bullet made contact with it. It took less than 50 rounds to find out what was happening. It happened with all mags I tried. (Kimber, Tripp, & Wilson). I did some research and it was a pretty common problem at the time. I called Kimber and they sent me a new slide stop with a much smaller surface area on the inside part of the slide stop. They were aware of the problem. I've had zero issues since. Just shoot it and make sure it runs good and enjoy.

It happened with my gun too. It does run well with fmj but any other hollow point will lift the slide up and lock the slide back. The execption are the hornady 185 grains crictical defense rounds, which worked fine. I ordered a pair of slide stops thinking that kimber would not send a new one, and should be getting them tomorrow. They are not kimber made. I will either use one of the new slide stops or file this one down, so i can use 230 grain gold dots.

Mine has been flawless, also my primary carry gun. Enjoy.
