The "Montado" is a Ruger New Vaquero designed specifically for the sport of Cowboy Mounted Shooting. The primary features being the lower hammer and the shorter barrel. In mounted shooting, a competitor is riding a horse in a course of fire similar to a barrel racing pattern while shooting 10 balloons with a pair of single action revolvers. Ammunition is a special .45LC black powder blank. The lower hammer makes it easier to manipulate single handed, and the shorter barrel makes for faster gun changes and is lighter and easier to aim. I have several pairs I use to compete with, and wish I was half as good as the kid in the video below.
