RANGE OFFICER MODEL
been savin' up and sacificed a couple rifles I never fired anyway , but have been wantin a springfield .45 & never paid much attention to the models and found out today
in layaway it was the "range officer" model. did a little search and saw 6 other models. not going to back out of the deal now
but what the biggest difference and what upgrades do I need to do...if any..or just shoot it and go.....thanks
Just shoot it and go.
Depending on the intended useage, the RO shouod be very usable out-of-the-box. Mine could benefit from a trigger tune-up to smooth it up a bit, and get the pull down to around 4 lbs––it's at 5.5 lbs now which is in spec, but a little high for my taste. That could run from $100-$200 plus postage if ou have Springfield do the work. I'd also like add a gold bead to the front sight post which would be less than $100 if done locally.
A lot of RO owners elect to replace the adjustable rear sight with a Harrison fixed sight. It's a little less clunky than the adjustable, but not much, in my view.
That mod would run about $100.

I;m probably not gonna make any changes unless I find a good reason, its for home defense and maybe carry...we'll see after I lug it around awhile
I love mine. The only thing I am changing right now are the grips.
You may find the rear sight and thumb saftey a bit sharp for carry.

OP, if you have any spare meat on your hips it will be lessened on your carry side!
my reactions have improved since i started to release the slide w/my left hand in front of the rear sight. it is sharp.
The SA RO does it come with full length guide rod or GI?
For carry I prefer the GI lighter and easier take down. That would be the only mod I would recommend.

Stock setup is GI recoil spring, guide, and plug.
The range officer is more of a competition pistol than a carry. Folks that I know who own one have installed a fiber front sight.
After shooting one a few weeks back, Im convenced that its a dam good piece of American tech...real good stuff man.....
I want one as well, accurate and shoots like a dream.
and affordable
