XMD .40/.45
Those of you who have either of the xmd's .40/45 how do you rate/like them? I am looking to purchase either a S&W M&P.40 or xmd .40/45 and cannot make up my mind. I have read a lot on xmd's but cannot find alot out there on S&W in any of the gun magazines. Please give pro/cons. Thanks
I haven't owned any other pistols besides my XDm9 and XD45 so I can't compare. I can say I don't have any complaints about either especially for the cost and haven't had any problems with either. The 9 is currently my CCW until I get the chance and $$ to run more personal defense ammo through the 45 then I will rotate that with the 9 for carry. They both go bang every time regardless of the ammo in them. I'll shoot 300-500 rounds out of the 9 when I go to the range and not a single hiccup.
Go rent and shoot all of the ones your looking at and determine what fits, feels, shoots best for you. Then buy and be happy, they will all be great guns but the best one should be the one you like!

Okay, my experience.
I have an XD9, XD45 and a 3.8 XDM 45. They are all great. The xdm is by far my favorite.
As far as caliber, I think .40 caliber is really just not practical for me. I would rather carry a 9mm or a 45.
Currently carry a 45 colt defender. The xdm is a great shooter, accurate, reliable, and concealable. I have 200 rounds thru it
and plan to make it my daily CC in about 100 more rounds of ball and at least 100 more hollow points. Not one problem so far.
If you are comfortable with the xd platform stick with it. Shoot the shit out of and go with the xdm
If I were you, I would go 45.
I've owned the XD40 4" and sub-compact (liked both and carried them as an LEO) and now own an XD45 Compact and an XDm45 5.25 Competition. I like both, very much. I don't particularly care for the feel of the S&W, but have had too much experience (LEO, USArmy, and USMC) to not believe that a handgun needs to fit the person using it. As stated above, utilize the range programs offered by these companies at a gunshop/range, and see which fits and fires best for you. You have to make the decision, in the end. Both companies are reputable, so that's not an issue. I can attest to SA's customer service and warranty work being exceptional, tho I have never actually required any warranty work, personally. I have worked at a gunshop for years and have seen people need their assitance. I will always be partial to SA because I also own quite a few 1911's (and variant) made by SA, sooo.....SA gets the nod over S&W, for me...
zero experience w/s and w(except for revolvers)but i'm crazy for the xd/xdm platform. check out my screen name!
my favorite(most accurate shooting) is my xdm 3.8 in .40.
SA has a great rep and provides great CS.
