P32 Homemade anti-rimlock wire? How to? And...do some .32ACP's rounds rimlock more than others?

Thank you. So that's braided wire? Or solid wire? Pics don't really show...and my eyes are lousy.

Looks like solid wire to me.

The only part that throws me is this part: filing a groove along the back side of the mag follower. I know why it's done (to act as a guide) but the material back there is already wafer-thin as it is.

I hate to spend $25+ for two of those kits from Kel-Tec (and they are out of stock anyway) but I'm concerned that doing it this way would damage the followers...unless that wire is really tiny in diameter.

So for the time being I'm carrying the gun this way. The round in the pip and the round after it are JHP's. The remaining rounds in the magazine are FMJ's.

I don't recall ever experiencing a rimlock on my of the P32's I've owned but I don't want the first time to occur when I least need it to happen. I don know that I've had horrendous reliability issues shooting blazer (aluminum case) .32 FMJ. They won't feed.

If you are concerned you will damage the follower, why not call Kel-Tec and get a couple spares? I've gotten a number of parts for free from them, including mag followers.

I'll do that.

BTW I can't believe it....got a RIM LOCK! The third round (the first FMJ in the stack) rim locked over the fourth round (another FMJ).

Just goes to show you it's not just JHP ammot that'll do this!

I have never had rimlock - but I guess there's always that first time, obviously. I did my own flywire install - the groove is real simple and don't worry about the follower - just touch it off real slow and easy till it fits the wire. Make sure the groove is nice and smooth with no rough stuff left hanging. To fit my wire under the floor plate, I took a hammer and flattened out the little loop on the end and it fits fine.
I haven't shot my P32 in awhile - perhaps I will this weekend.

Edited to add: Its the shorter rounds in overall length that have the most rimlock potential. HP's and some FMJ's as well are shorter than others and allow the round to move back and forth just enough to lock the rims over each other. I only carry FMJ's and one brand has been fine for me - the Winchester White Box. So if I find some different ammo for a decent price, I can always check it to see if its shorter or not. But with the wire, I don't worry about it.

Beware, once the wires in I do not think you'll be able to shoot the FMJ anymore.

The whole point of that mod is that you can remove the wire to shoot FMJ; it's not a permanent change.

Besides, there are some FMJ rounds that have roughly the same OAL as .32ACP hollowpoints, such as the flat-nosed Winchester White Box 71gr. FMJs. My wife shoots those in her P32 with magazines that have the Kel-tec factory anti-rimlock kit installed.

Remington FMJ's seem to be on the short side. Blazer FMJ's (alum. case) didn't work in any of my P32's as they were too long.

well, I went to the hardwarre store and bought the wire and then went to Sears and purchased a set of needle files (the last set in stock).

Modifying the mag parts with the triangular file was easier than expected but I'm having a snag:

The wire is thick enough along the back of the magazine to prevent the rounds from moving back and forth

HOWEVER...

The wire's diameter is also thick enough to prevent the magazine insert pin from fully seating into the magazine floor plate. I've tried pounding it flat with a hammer (on a metal surface). but no go. The mag floor plate will come off with only a moderate push of the thumb. That's a disaster waiting to happen.

My personaly recommendation would be:

1. Buy some Wolff extra power mag springs. Try them.

2. Buy an anti-rimlock kit from Kel-Tec. Try them. I've never seen the KT product but I understand it's a shim vs. a wire.

3. Then try the Wolff springs and the Kel-Tec kit in tandem.
