P11 holster, ammo, etc.
Just got a used P11 with about 300 rounds down the tube. The gun came with a factory night sight that still glows well enough to be functional at night. It also came with 2 10-rd mags and 1 12-rd mags, all made by MecGar. I carry G19, but I have been wanting to have a back-up gun or something smaller than a G19 when I need to pack something lighter and smaller. This P11 was offered at a good price, so I jumped on it.
As a BUG, I plan to carry the P11 in a pocket holster either in my front pants pocket or cargo pocket. I have a Blackhawk pocket holster that fits a G26 well, but it is kind of loose for a P11. I need recommendation for a good fitting pocket holster for a P11.
I took the P11 to the range today for function test. I tested it using Winchester PP 115 grain JHP (this is the mildest JHP ammo I have and it should help with the P11 recoil). All four magazines worked well with the gun. No FTF or FTE. From 10 yards, I was able to keep them in the 10 ring of a B27 target shooting with both hands (Weaver stance) once I got used to the long trigger pull. The trigger has a long pull (which I anticipated from reading various accounts from P11 owners), but it was a smooth pull. I think mine has an 8.5lbs trigger spring. Recoil was not as bad as I thought it would be. The long trigger pull is more bothersome to me than the recoil itself. Overall, I am satisfied with the gun and how it shoots. I definitely need to practice with this trigger, esp. for doing rapid shooting.
So what JHP ammo do you carry in your P11?
I've been carrying either Remington Golden Saber 124gr or Federal HydraShok 125gr JHP for my defensive rounds. Both have fed well in my P11. My brother has also used Corbon JHP's, I'm not sure what weight bullet he is using, and he reports no feeding issues with his, either.
I have heard of some issues using 148gr JHP's in the P11's, but have not used any myself to confirm or deny.
Both of us have polished the feedramp on our pistols to make JHP's feed more reliably. Some need it, some don't. Mostly the older ones seem to need clean up.
