 SR22 Broke after 200 rounds

Picked up a new Ruger SR22 this weekend.

Went to shoot this morning and after 200 rounds the slide flew forward off the gun about 15 feet.

Now it will not stay assembled. The slide locks open ten which no mag inserted and then if you release it the takedown lever pops down and releases the slide from the gun.

Called Ruger and after an hour on hold, said they were sending me a shipping label within the hour. Never came. Four hours later I call back wait on hold again and they can't find a record of me calling.

Goes without saying I'm pretty upset and disappointed with Ruger right now. This is the second bad Ruger I've bought.

Update: Did get a shipping label so it will be going back to Ruger tommorow.

Sounds like there might be a burr on the slide, near the slide stop and the takedown detent is not doing its job.

Send that sucker back to Ruger.

Good luck with it, keep us posted. Your situation is unfortunate, but I don't feel alone in the world anymore. While I haven"t had this same experiemce with Ruger, it is pretty typical of my own experiences.

Mine's been at Ruger over a month, wish they'd hurry up and send it back so I can trade it towards an M&P 22

I haven't even gotten a letter yet so I can't check on it, and they are always extremely busy when I call

I have about 400 flawless rounds through mine. Only had 5 issues due to ammo, not the gun.

Almost sounds like the detent on the take-down lever isn't working properly, and isn't locking into the frame. When I get mine, the detent was almost too strong. Had to use a flat-blade screwdriver to pop it out carefully. After about a dozen take-downs, its still tight, but I can do it with just my hands now, though it is a bit stiff.

I hope the best for you and your gun. I have been happy with mine.

Out of curiosity, what serial number ranger were you in? I am in the low 17,000. I wonder if maybe you got an early one and the issue is related to that.

The part after the first 3 digits in in the 24k range. The detent for the lever does not seem to catch at all. Doesn't feel like it snaps in place at all.

>>the takedown lever pops down and releases the slide from the gun.<<

That's the whole crux of the matter right there. Mine is back at Ruger for the same problem, and it seems to be one that's growing each day. If you look around at some of the other forums (Ruger in particular) you'll see that we're not alone. I'd rather they keep it until a "real" fix can be made rather than slap another faulty part on it and ship it back. Luckily I've got a MKlll to fall back on.

Thanks for the info. I don't really like or trust the design now. Wish I had got something else instead.

Haven't had an issue with mine. Taken it down several times now. Still holds so tightly I have to pry open with my Victorinox. We'll see as time moves forward I guess.

I'm sorry to hear that. I am actually shocked.

I used to deal guns and I own many Ruger products. I have always known their customer service and quality to be top notch.

Example. One of my own personal guns, a MKII 678GC, needed servicing due to my own stupidity.

I loaned the gun to a friend to try. He dropped it, and my leupold, into the mud. Then made the mistake of trying to clean it before returning it to me. He reassembled the pistol incorrectly jamming the backstrap in so badly my gusmith could not get it out.

Ruger corrected the issue free of charge.

I bought a Single Ten very early after their release. It has been flawless. When it comes to Ruger Semi Auto Rimfires, I would stick to the Mark lll.

I just got the pistol back from Ruger. I'll try to get it out to the range to test it out.

The packing slip says they replaced the slide, takedown level and plunger, pin and spring. So it seems like half a different gun.

I put about 350 to 400 rounds through it. It runs fine now, no malfunctions at all.

Feels much better overall. I'm satisfied with it and the way they handled the repair.

I appreciate you taking the time to report back...stuff happens, I too hate when it happens to something I depend on (Car, gun, properly C02'ed keg, etc...), but, sounds like it's fixed.

Congrats....an oh, I'll share a pic of my SR-22

really...

Good deal.

Keep an eye on the slide, near the slide stop, to ensure that you do not abnormal wear from the aluminum slide coming into contact with the sheet steel slide stop.

Bummer. I think that I will hold off for a while longer. Thanks for reporting back.

I was thinking about getting one...maybe not.
