In uspsa limited division, your give up way too much using a 45, since a 40 makes Major power factory nicely, and gets you more rounds in the 140mm mag as well.

Major power factor is the bullet weight X fps divide by 1000 and in the limited class, you have to make 165 or you are scored as a minor power factor.

So lets say that you are shooting a 45 with a 230 bullet, and it going 900 FPS. You end up with a MPF of 207,which means you now have a pistol with a ton of unneeded recoil, and that recoil is going to slow your course speed times. Plus the fact that the size of the round have just taken up space in the 140mm mag, meaning more mag changes as well. Now take the 40 with a 180 bullet, and you only have to push it 917 to make MPF, plus your looking at 19 rounds in the mag as well.

Again, in limited class, 40 is the smallest caliber they allow for major powder factor, and is the round to use since you can hit MPF easily, and have 19 rounds in the mag. It use to be 9mm, but after too many guys where blowing up pistol when it was 175 MPF, they changed the rule and limited it to 40 and above only now. It's kind of a shame since when they lowered the MPF, hitting MPF with a 9mm Major is a snap (9mm case long loaded running at +p pressures, and what I use in unlimited since once fired brass is so cheap and plentiful).

Now if you are serious about getting into the USPSA limited division class, then I do have one of my back up guns for sale as a complete ready to run package (a friend has not gotten around to buying it yet).

Its a built SX 16-40 limited, 6 high cap mags with Arredondo extenders (140 legal), 2- 10 round dump mags for first round loading, a CR speed holster rig with 5 mag pouches, and the belt in a 48" waist (all CR speed). And yes, there is a Dawson fiber front sight in the pile of parts they can be installed as well. And since I am sitting on 40mm brass by the buckets, can throw in 1k of cases to get you going.

The pistol has about 1K of round fired from it (again, a back up gun that I never use), and will let the pkg go for $1400 plus shipping.
