I bought some "Pre Ban mags" at a gun show. The mags i bought were stainless. I just looked at Para's website and it shows that they are Blued. I sound a few places that have both blue and stainless for sale as preban. Just want to make sure i get the right stuff.

Are all pre ban mags blue?

Are ONLY pre ban mags blue?

Is there any other way to tell pre ban from post ban?

Here are the pictures from the Para website:

Are they factory mags?

I have some "normal capacity" P16 mags which I believe are stainless. They came with a stainless gun.

Is there an important difference between pre- and post-ban mags? As long as they hold the # of rounds that God and Ted Szabo intended, I couldn't care less when they came off the assembly line.

I contact Para today and was told that ONLY pre ban P14 Mags were blued. I am not sure why people are selling stainless mags as pre ban unless they know something Para doesnt.

The downfall to pre-ban mags is that para was just getting count numbers into the country before the ban hit, and didn't give a rats ass about quality during this period (read the mags had many problems).

Their game plan during the coming ban was that the mags could be replaced once they where in the states. Once the ban hit, they they went back to quality mag bodies for replacements of the questionable units.

On the positive note now, If you do have problems with the Pre-ban mags, Para will replace them with new unit (you just have to eat the cost of shipping them the mas though).

And yes, the original Pre-ban mags where blued only, although some of the ban replacement bodies where plated (silver), so yes there could be silver pre-ban mags if they where factory rebuilds with new bodies (read better have the invoice from Para to prove that they where factory rebuilt/replaced for this time period if you live in a ban state).

I had Para Prebans in "nickel" with the extended floorplate before selling them off when my P-14 was stolen. I have also talked to Para a lifetime ago when I was a satisfied customer of theirs, and never heard any blued only talk from them when my mags were mentioned.
