Who makes a good muffler for a 1911?

I'll porbably need a threaded barrel too.

Any suggestions?

I was talking to a guy at a class about this. He claimed to have recently built a 1911 from parts, and said almost every part required significant fitting. Went on to say no aftermarket barrel would drop in easily.

So my question is, did that storm lake barrel drop in easy? Was that guy right, or was he full of shit? I have an Osprey on the way (for an FNP45 tac) and can't decide if I want to attempt mounting it on my Kimber.

I believe Storm Lake has drop-in barrels. It will most likely need some fitting but nothing compared to a gunsmith fit barrel.

correct –– SL offers 2 types (drop-in & fitting required)

my drop-in has been great, only had to polish the feed ramp (its something i do on any barrel)
no hiccups ~500 rds down tube so far

drop-in barrels should work fine in a factory gun. i have heard of people having to do slight work, but nothing requiring a gun smith

now for what that guy was building - he would prolly want to use a fitting required barrel to keep all tolerances really tight.

Seems like good info so far but you know there is a specific forum for silencers in the Armory section?

You might get a lot of information in there.

Thanks, I missed that section! I'll check it out!

Now to find a retailer for the barrel and supressor.

I was looking at the storm lake barrels and was wondering, if my current 1911 has NO feed ramp and I get a barrel with a feed ramp will it fit? or do I have to do some major modifications to it..

no, if your current isnt ramped, it's not cut for a ramped barrel.

Midway has threaded barrels for under $100 by the way..
