 My Great Uncle's Colt Woodsman

I posted this in the GD thread of 22 pistol picture, but I felt it was worthy of its own thread in a forum where it would truly be appreciated:

This is my Colt Woodsman. My Great Uncle Franklin Warnick purchase it in 1971. My Dad bought it for me from his estate when Uncle Franklin passed in 1995. Both of my grandfathers died before I was born and Uncle Franklin didn't have any kids; he was as close to a grandfather as I had.

The pistol

with receipt

Uncle Franklin's 4473 or similar (it may be the MD version of the time)

All the paperwork I have with it

Pistol and box

Warranty card he never filled out (check out the annual salaries)

I like your departed uncle a lot! He kept that pistol in pristine condition and kept the box with all the papers as well! Nice pistol!

Very, very nice.

How's it shoot?

Nice that everything is with it!
Does anyone know of a good book about the Colt rimfire pistols?
I never took the time to learn about the different models they have made over the decades.

You know what I like about you? You didn't inherit it and immediately take it to a pawn shop. Drives me nuts when people do that on Pawn Stars.

I know, weird rant. Anyway, I just saw your post in the .22 thread in GD. Great piece, surely a family treasure. Well done!

It shoots absolutely wonderful. I have shot it a lot. I would bet I have shot way more out of it than Uncle Franklin ever did. Of course, I'm never going to sell it so I might as well shoot it.

He is my wife shooting it a few years ago.

How does a pistol like that make it 40 or more years without being fired?

One of the guns I have of my great grandfathers, is a 1964 colt match Target woodsman. Never fired. By far my favorite gun.

In a way I'm glad I don't have any heirloom guns like that.
Everytime I think about it, I would be overcome with an urge to take her out to the range and wring 'er out.

Any pics?

Interesting on the Huntsman! I have my father's Colt Challenger and my own Colt Woodsman Sport (4 1/2) that I bought in 1972.

Long live the Colt .22 pistols!
