FiveseveN price check in metro-Detroit
First, thank you––ALL of you––for the nonstop entertainment in the "what the hell is a 5.7 good for?" threads; personally, I like them, and would just enjoy sending one more type of bullet downrange.
I've got eyes on an all-black used FiveseveN USG model (square trigger guard, adjustable sights) and very little usage, if any, for $899. Online and everywhere else, new is going $1,022 and more.
I was thinking that if it comes with the box and two other mags, I'd go in with $900 cash and see if they'd go out-the-door for it. (MI sales tax is 6%.)
Does that sound about right, or still high? Someone please post that "no, but please send the name of the store so I can call them and berate them" post so I know it's a good deal! :)
Thx-
Liquid
Well, if your screen name is an indication that you are in public safety, consider FN's LEO/MIL program that allows a really good rebate on the FiveSeven.
You may end up being able to get a new one for less than that used one, with money to spare.
All info I found indicates that promotion (LEO personal purchase) expired 12/31/10, and I'm not going to have very good luck getting any other type of agency support since it's not an on-duty weapon at this time. About the best I can/could do would be to show ID and hope for a discount, but about all you find that on around here are Glock and S&W M&P variants. (Truth be told, this really is a fun gun for me anyway, not at all for anything on-duty.) I know these things command high resales, and also that they don't sit around long when they have a few hundred bucks knocked off the price...
check at www.tannerssportcenter.com they had NIB 5.7's for 899, call them, they have gunbroker listings but the 5.7 are not posted.
Maybe not any rebates, but you being LEO can get ahold of SS190 armor-defeating ammunition! This, imho, makes the weapon more than adequate as a service weapon.
If I were LEO and had the chance to pack SS190 in my 5-7, it would instantly go from my "oshit/spendy plinky collector's pistol" to my carry pistol.
There's a reason Secret Service agents carry them. ;)
you might be able to get a better deal online, but from a store where you can see it in hand that's not bad.

LEO's can't get SS109 for personal use. It's my understanding that it can only be bought by departments for official use.
OP: The 2011 DSP (FN's LEO program) details should be out shortly according to an e-mail exchange I had with customer service. You don't need department approval for the DSP rebate, nor does the gun have to be for official use. You LEO ID should be enough to get the rebate. I bought a 5.7 directly from FN (through a local FFL) a couple of years go through their DSP program at a great price. They have since changed the program to a rebate instead of direct sale.
If you take good care of it, how long will it last? 100 years? 150 years? IT isnt a cell phone or a computer, its a gun. If you really want it, buy it , and put it in your will for someone else to have and use 100 years from now.
