I have a few old long barrels that i want to cut down for 18.5 and SBS barrels. After i cut them i will need to install a front bead of some type. Is there any problem with installing a front bead that is drilled through the barrel in to the bore? Years ago i had a old Mossberg 500 that someone else had cut the barrel down on. The also drilled a hole for a front sight that went through the barrel into the bore. I bought the right side tap and a bead, tapped the hold and screwed the sight in. Then i filled it down and polished it in the bore. It worked fine for me. Is this a "acceptable" way of mounting a front sight on a shotgun?

Perfectly OK and the ways its done on most non-vent ribbed barrels.

Just be sure you do get the shank of the bead dressed down to match the contour of the bore and go lightly so you do not significantly alter the bore size and shape. Several ways to do this, sandpaper around a dowel rod, fine sanding drum on a Dremel, etc.
