Im thinking of buying these for a hiking/shooting range boot. Made in USA. Anyone have anything bad to say about these?

It seems that Danner boots don't really have sizes consistent through the various models. I've got a 14 Grouse, a 13 Quarry and a 13 Romeo. The Romeo is a tad too small, the Grouse fits perfectly, and the Quarry is a tad too big (but thick socks fixes it). Try them on before you buy them, don't order them online.

I have 2 boots from Danner already. I have the Power Foreman and the Quarry both in a 12 and both seem to fit the same. Although the Quarry is a tad larger then the Power Foreman, but it was my understanding that they are larger so that you can put a heavier weight sock on while wearing them due to the fact that its a insulated boot.

had a pair for awhile, they are sized a bit small IMO - that's the only drawback besides retail price so try them on first if possible..

I had a pair of them issued to me, along with a pair of Merrell Chameleons. I liked the Merrells much better. Fit was better, weight was much better, and I felt more sure footed in them. The Danners were decent enough, but I don't think I would purchase them with my own money.

They did offer better protection for my feet, and were built for abuse though.

I will try a pair. I have been looking for some knock around hiking boots/ range boots. I posted a thread below this one. since I had surgery on both legs so my feet need to be tended to.

The Combat Hikers are not "stitchdown" construction so they can not be resoled. I wear a size 10W RAT boot but need a 10XW in the Combat Hikers. Also tightening the laces on these are not as fast as i would like. I think the Improved CH was supposed to have address the lacing issue but I have not tried them so I can not say.

So I've had combat hikers and they were ok.. but I think if you want a hiking / combat boot you're better to look at Wellco Hybrid Combat Hikers or Lowa Zephyr

These are hybrid hikers by Wellco... a bit more expensive but worth it imo

With the insurgence of mountain warfare, the HYBRID HIKER is the revolutionary boot in the combat footwear category. It is constructed for harsh environments and is built to take a beating, allowing you to rapidly maneuver through mountain combat. The upper features an indestructible Kevlar® based nylon. Adding to the durability is a sharkskin toe cap and heel counter. The HYBRID HIKER is a waterproof breathable boot featuring a custom Vibram® multi-terrain outsole with a rugged lightweight midsole.

*edit*
They run about $270 for a pair

I have a pair of Danner ICH's and I love them. They are the first boot I have taken out of the box and put through the ringer, and not received a blister.

A day after I received them I went on a fire and hiked around all day for 2 straight days. If I would have tired that with my old sportivias or my whites, I would have had blisters.

These are my absolute favorite boots.

I think they are pretty good but most of the Army guys don't seem to like them. What size do you wear? Maybe I can wheel and deal something here.

I love mines and they are comfortable...and they were only 50 bucks at the danner outlet in Portland.

Better deal is the USMC Hot rats...oh my god....possibly the most comfortable boots I have ever bought.

Asolo Fugitives

I think there's a 20% sale going on right now as well. Great boots.

The Danners are garbage.

Lowa Zephyrs are probably the best boot I've worn. I've got several pairs of Danner's and they don't match up.

The Danner combat hikers really aren't too bad, but I think they're a strange choice for theater-wide issue for afghanistan.

I highly recommend them. I bought a new in the box pair from a surplus store because they were dirt cheap. I didn't expect much, but now they are my goto hiking boot. There is not telling how many miles I've logged with them. I even took them to Yellowstone last year.

I had two pair issued to me. They are garbage in my opinion. Too heavy, too thick to breath yet not waterproof or warm, bad design (toe causes blisters), stitches started popping about the 3rd or 4th mission I wore them on.

Save the money and buy some Asolo's from sierratradingpost.com. Nothing beats them. Durable, cheaper, better traction, etc.

These lasted 3 years in Iraq and Afghanistan, plus hiking at home. I wear them around town now. I replaced them with another pair.

If you go to shoebuy.com and buy them enter "blowout" in the promo box and you can get them for $148. That's the cheapest I've seen them.
