I've used my issued GI type kevlar helmet for a couple of years. It always seems heavy and never has fit me right. Can you guys tell me about some other helmet options for my own personal gear?

Personal gear for what? Infantry-style firefights, apocalyptic bugout, home defense, contractor work? Usually a good idea to have something to protect your dome from bumps, but if you don't need ballistic protection there's no reason to pay extra in dollars or weight. Get a skater-style helmet and give it a tactical makeover to taste. If you want ballistic protection as a just-in-case, get a lightweight helmet like the Ops-Core FAST, MICH gunfighter-cut, or if you have deep pockets a Crye Airframe.

You might look at changing the pads and strap before you buy another helmet. If your pads are worn out or just the wrong size to begin with your fit won't be good. Look at Team Wendy amd Ops Core for some options as well as others.. As far as helmets go Ops Core is the cats ass right now but last I checked production was halted due to a lawsuit by some hippe shitbirds. Be prepared to drop $1k for the Ops Core Fast though. The Crye Airframe is probably next in line and is a little cheaper around 800-900 and them the MSA 2002 can be had around 500-600.

If your helmet is going to be used for a "just in case" item I would look at the 2002 unless $1k is chump change to you, it's not to me.

You can get used ACH/MICH for less than $200. I think I paid $125 for one.

Full cut ACHs run 125-175 on the EE. I even saw one for $75.

It boggles my mind when I see them for 275-350. Its as ridiculous as seeing m952v lights in the EE for over $300.

Ops-Cores are backlogged and super expensive. They typically go for $900-1K, but have been selling as high as $2K if you can find them. Airframes run $900-1K. 2001 and 2000 cut ACH go for $500.

The best buy if you want a helmet are the 2002 ACH.

Purchase a lightly used ACH on the EE. They pop up all the time for sub-$200 prices. If you don't need to ballistic protection, buy a PT Helmets A-Alpha (inexpensive option) or Ops-Core FAST Base Jump (more espensive option).

Can you use the ACH over top of active earpro like MSA sordins?

I used to own a 2001 cut BAE helmet but after wearing it for hours you can definitely feel the strain on your neck. I'm thinking about picking up the non ballistic FAST base jump. I was thinking about picking up an Ops-Core FAST ballistic but there is no weight advantage over a 2001... I wish they would come out with a higher cut that shaves off more weight.

Yes if you properly configure the padding to create a channel for the headband.
