How come ELEY primed 22LR smells so bad?
Why do ELEY primed 22lr smell like acetone?
I'm not sure what they use, but Eley uses a patented priming compound.
Kilgore: Smell that? You smell that?
Lance: What?
Kilgore: Eley, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. [kneels]
Kilgore: I love the smell of Eley in the morning. You know, one time we had a bullseye match, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up to the line. The smell, you know that Eley smell, the whole range. Smelled like
[sniffing, pondering]
Kilgore: victory. Someday this match's gonna end...
[suddenly walks off]
Because it is French! Your stupid american pig dog. Federal Ammo is a hamster, and American Eagle smells of elderberries!
On a serious note, I am going to assume it smells odd because the powder blend is something only they use. *shrug*
What ammo are you using? Are you sure it's the primer that smells and not the powder? Different ammo makers use Eley primers so there will be different powders.
I've always thought of it as smelling more like Crazy Glue.
Definitely funky!
Well I have noticed it with Aguila and Wolf 22lr
I think Eley uses ground up used socks from a gym as filler material in the priming compound.

Both of those smell different than Eley or SK. I stopped putting a glass of soda next to my gun during a match, an empty SK case makes the soda taste just like the fired cases smell, only worse.
