quality scope mounts for a mosin
I would like something I can drill and tap the receiver for rather than just mount on the rear sight base. I would also like the mount to be centered over the bore.
I don't know what is involved further than accurately spacing holes and making a turned down bolt. I am going scope only. I am probably going to do a 16 or 18" barrel with cut down factory stock.
The ATI kit seems to be the only game in town. I can get it for $36 from sportsman's guide.
From what I've gathered the rock solid mounts are real popular, and seem to be "rock solid".

They are a bit pricey, and that was the route I was originally going to take but I don't have a drill press and using the front dovetail base is soo much cheaper. The ATI might work, but in terms of quality from what I've seen on the interwebz the rock solid mount beats the ATI mount in every way.
The Rock Solid looks better than the ATI, which is what I've got. Then again, I only paid $50 for the rifle; not going to spend $160 on the mount. The ATI should work ok for minute of hog.

That is pretty neat, but is way to pricey for this project. At most this will be a 500 yd rifle with a shotgun scope. I may try to modify the ATI to make it more rigid if i need to.
Pretty cool someone is making quality stuff for these rifles.
Yea there is some quality parts out there, and I planned on using the ATI one until I found out about rock solid, and the perfectionist part of me wanted the rock solid one :p But yea it's expensive, a couple extra screws or something could probably strengthen up the ATI one enough. I dunno know about that ati bolt handle though, I'd rather just use the smooth part from a bolt and silver solder it on.

I was considering making my own aluminum bolt handle. I would modify the bolt carrier a bit and make it interlock on a shoulder I mill into it.
Might look at these, he gets high marks, and has fast turnaround.

I purchased my PU & PE mounts from Accumounts. If you want to tap the receiver with the military style then its a good choice. I especially like the PE mount and scope.
Accumounts
I have a 1934 Tula that I wanted to scope. Its an MO 34/59 if I remember right.
But I didnt want to drill and tap it because of its collector value and also I had
doubts I could do that properly. I thought I would see if JB weld would work.
So far its holding very well after maybe 200 rounds with a Bushnell Banner LER on it.
Total cost is close to $200 for the scope and Accumounts PE mount on the HEX rcvr.
Plus the cost of the bent bolt from Ken at Rock Solid mounts.
The Banner works well and I have a cheapo NC Star LER as a backup if needed.
The last time I shot it in October I only had a few minutes left to shoot at the range but
I did get off 4 rds at 100 yds. Its solid. The scope is very solid in the Accumounts setup but I
have to make sure the 2 knurled screws are very tight. I also am using JB weld for
a modified ATI mount on an M#( I just bought. The JB weld is working extremely well
on that setup too. I got a 1 inch 4 round group at the range a week ago with that setup.
Im not going to drill and tap any M39 and this way is totally clean. Ive already removed
the mount one time to realign the mount to parallel the bore. Its still off by 9 minutes right
now according to an SS10x42 SWFA scope. Ill see how it performs at 500 yards to
see if I have to reset it. The bore is not aligned with the reciever so I might leave it the way
it is.
