How do I cancel my C&R license?
I got a C&R license a few years back with the intention of using it to collect... I never did get around to using it, and I don't really need it anymore. I'd prefer not bother the ATF by making them look for me when it expires, so I'm going to go ahead and cancel it now.
What do I need to do legally?

Since you posted in the Class III /NFA section.
The answer is call the number on your license and ask.

Send them the original with a little note saying you are returning it.
They're only good for 3 years. Hasn't it expired on its own already?
I let mine expire after having it for years. I kept my book just in case, but honestly there just isnt that much out there to buy at a good price anymore.

Not yet... January of 2013.
Don't worry about it. Just let it expire.
They don't come looking for you. A little before it will expire they will send you a notification so you can renew it. If you don't renew it nothing else needs to be done. After the expiration date you will have nothing else to do with it. You can destroy the bound book. You won't be contacted and do not need to keep any records.
If you contact them they will probably tell you to just let it expire.
At $10/year, it's worth keeping just for the dealer discount you get from Midway.

And Brownell's I believe, and a few other places...
I let mine lapse for six months and it was no big deal. I would just let it lapse.
