tell me what i got please k98
Your barrel has aftermarket sporting sights on it. Shotguns were made out of the 98 action.
The rod that sticks out past the bayonet lug? You mean the cleaning rod?
This stock has the web marking which was dismanteled in 1921 and the k98 was designed in 35 from what I could find so how would this be put together? And that may the cleaning rod.
So basically I'm better off just buying a complete k98 then trying to make this original. It has no personal value

Actually they started in '34, but I do not see any waffenamts and you did not mention any 'S' code on the barrel ring.
Looks like this was "bubbafied".

Thats what i figured once i started doing research. Thats ok i guess. I"m just refinishing the stock for fun, which not sure about the barrel fitment but maybe i'd be able to buy a GEHA 12 guage and put the stock on that if it turns out nice.... either way, its a gun and it was free....
the new K98 stamp and serial numbers are interesting....

They are not the proper font. Also, the serial numbers seem like the wrong font as well al not lining up very well. They generally were stamped straight.

yeah the serial number and the k98 were buffed off and restamped for some reason. usually thats someone trying to "make" an all matching rifle. so, what is the code on TOP of the receiver ?

I dont feel like opening the safe, but dont they say "Mod 98"?
yeah Mod. 98 some of them had an old gothic script saying that, i think the reworked GEW's
what is the code on TOP of the receiver ?
Nothing on the top of reciever, just a 35 near the safety and the marking on the top of the lever on the 2nd or so picture above.... guess i'll have to buy a real one
I'm pretty sure it's Polish.
the bolt reciever and magazine look like a 98 though don't they? well the stock is from the 1920 timeframe, and the gun has been locked up for the last 20 years... so is the "gun" part just a bunch of random pieces that were put together? I guess i'm just confused since it looks to me like the parts of a 98, but if its all been fake stamped, what the hell is it?
and i was able to get all that epoxy out of the stock and the rear circle goes all the way through in the center and a small lip around the hole like a 98 stock, and the front was a sling hole on both sides, which looks like a rough cut version of the 98 stock as well..... someone was trying real hard aparently...
all that being said, i also have 8mm ammo that was with it... do i shoot it, or tie it to a tree and a string to trigger, just in case?
Nothing fake about it that I can see (other than the sporter sights, if you want to call that fake). It's a Polish K98. The stock looks Polish, as well. It was not uncommon for Polish rifles to be scrubbed, either by the Germans, or when they were sent to the Spanish Civil War. They were chambered for 8mm, so it shouldn't be a problem.
Well i got all the epoxy/filler out of the holes, and the rear hole was in fact a take down bolt hole, and the front was carved exactly (different on both sides) for the k98 sling. This is really confusing because the old GEW/GEHA stocks only had the bolt hole that was later filled with a medallion, and none online had the bolt hole AND a through stock sling hole. The sling hole looks standard too with nice edges, not like some bubba carved it with a machete. Someone also added modern sling swivels to the underside front and back but i filled those.
its going to look stock except for the bolt holes i'm putting german coins from the EWB era, and covering the old sling holes with Bavarian stamps also from that time frame. Should look pretty cool and pretty much a re-furb of what it should have looked like.
