The opinion in the U.K seems to be they are pretty dire. Very expensive firearm in comparison to most BP options available here too, and they're quite rare. Given they are probably more available in America, how do you all find them?

They're seen as the expensive side of BP collecting.
Pietta claims the LeMats have won several championships, but all I see around here are 1858s.
Even the Shooter's Model ( gain-twist rifling ) is pretty common - more than the Le Mat.

I have had one for a number of years and always enjoy it when I take it out . Very accurate 44 cap n ball . had it with me at the local range once and had some guys fall in love with it , getting there picture made with it . My daughter and I got a kick out of them . But......yes a very nice well made piece .
