Price check: Traditions Penn. Rifle, .50 cal, caplock
Local guy is selling a Traditions Penn. Rifle, .50 cal, caplock. Claims new unfired condition. asking price is 250.00. I see that NIB from online retailers they run between 500.00 & 700.00 ,These prices seem steep, I never thought Traditions was a high end firearm, maybe Im out of touch with the BP market
$250 isn't a stupid price to pay for that particular rifle, if it's in unfired condition. I think there's room to talk him down, myself, but I could be wrong.
$500-$700 is insane to pay for a Traditions, absolutely batshit insane. I don't know where they get off setting the MSRP so high on their rifles, but I'd pass at half that price. You can get into a Lyman Great Plains rifle for that kind of money, and the Lyman is superior in every way. It's so superior, in fact, that I would skip buying a Traditions entirely and try my best to get into a Lyman or, as a second choice, a TC in whichever flavor suits you. It'll be money well spent.
If $250 is the max of your budget right now, I would really just skip it and save up more money. You're going to have to drop another hundred on caps, powder, balls/bullets, and various other accoutrements associated with muzzleloading. No sense buying all that stuff to service a sub-standard rifle that isn't likely to last you long before you decide you want to upgrade, or you drop the hobby out of frustration.
My opinion, anyway.
