I need to vent after the phone call with ATF...
You guessed it right. Another "exciting" delay story with ATF.
I sent my form 4 on Sep of 2011 and pending at Oct.08.2011.
I waited patiently and called ATF today to check the status of my transfer.
They told me that the examiner assigned to me is no longer with ATF, and she doesn't even know who's going to handle my file or when it will be approved.
WTF is wrong with this picture?

You called for no reason.
No law saying they can't make you wait for years and years.... Well I mean if you don't count the US Constitution's Second Amendment. Then again, that was tossed under the bus in 1934.
Call back in another 6 months if you haven't gotten it by then.

Who cares?
They have a person who's job it to do nothing but answer that question, and it does not slow down the process at all.
OP: Now you have me worried about mine.
Your state's examiner was to be Suzanna Santamaria.
She isn't an examiner anymore.
Your transfer will go through just fine.
Why do you think that a customer service rep would know when your approval would come through? That's not their job.

Apparently the OP cares.
Oh, I thought you were getting on his case about slowing down the process by calling.
Let's hug it out.

...because someone spilled their coffee on it and washed away the ink? or because it'll never turn up for a very good reason?

I'm very sorry to hear that Armed and Bubbles... Curious, was it just with one examiner? or a general date range? Not that it makes a difference really. Still sucky for dealer and customer, no matter how you slice it.
Jeremy
I don't believe it was a particular examiner as much as its the overwhelming backlog and mountain of actual paper that is floating around that place. my particular examiner has been excellent to deal with.
lost documents have been in the last 6 months. current examiner was great in correcting the issue.
the lost or misappropriated check had been just a little over 6 months. current examiner was absolutely fantastic in fixing the issue and was a tremendous help!

I wasn't given that info, just that some of our F3's had been "lost" and we needed to re-submit. Once we did they were turned around in less than two weeks.
Well, that's good to hear on both accounts. I vaguely remember my item that was on a form 3 last year, that apparently got stuck to the back of another form. It only took an extra three months or so to get cleared up. LOL.
I'm glad to hear that the remaining examiners haven't given up on their jobs yet.

With just seven(?) people, I'm sure that it is an overwhelming mound of paperwork, especially during, what we like to call, "tax season".

Our business is always crazy this time of year, but we just a good 'ol type 2, non SOT.

Boy, you are a whiner.
Back in the day, it took me 13 months to get a Form 4 approved.
If you want to blame some one, blame Obama and the Democrats in the Senate who have not produced a budget for federal hiring in three years. So, these unfilled BATF Branch positions get unfilled.
