 SBR AR or 5.56 Suppressor?

I have a 16" & 20" Colt AR's. I'm thinking about adding either a 12.5" Colt 6933 or a AAC suppressor. If I could only get one, which would you recommend and why?

Both, of course.

But if I could only have one, it would be the suppressor –– I got by with a suppressed carbine for quite a while before I had an SBR.

I got both, but if I could only get one I would get the suppressor as it can be used on all your rifles. Oh and THEN get the SBR.

I got sbr first.

Id do can first if I could do it over

The can is way more fun. Of course, the sbr compliments the can by making the overall package easier to handle, but if you can do only one - suppressor first.

Sounds like I'm hearing a consensus here. :)

If I would never get a chance to get the SBR, would the suppressor make a 16" barreled gun to unwieldy?

I didn't think so, and my 5.56mm can is far from the shortest/lightest available...

I didn't even find it all that bad on an 18"...

But a bullpup or an SBR is the way to go, IMHO, I really like the shorter set-ups.

Both.

Another vote for both ... but I'll disagree with everyone, and say if I could only have one, I'd go for the SBR.

Short rifles have a ton of advantages, and few disadvantages. But suppressors, while great in many calibers, are IMHO the least pleasant in 5.56 from an operator's point of view. Way too much blowback, and you still have the supersonic crack (unless you use subsonic ammo, which in turn creates cycling issues).

YMMV.

If I had to choose one then I'd get the suppressor. But might as well just pay the stamp and SBR a lower you already have and get the process going.

Always the contrarian!

You are right about the blowback, but once I shot suppressed - I haven't wanted to go back. Damn cans are like potato chips.

Same here.

You can train, practice, and learn to compensate for a few extra inches of length... no amount of training is going to help you shoot quieter.
