Full Auto or Three Round Burst

I am thinking of paying for the stamps and converting my rifle to a three round burst or full rock and roll. I know its going to be expensive no matter what way you gut it, but which is more simple to do? I just am starting to do my research on this. My main experience over the years with long guns is hunting weapons so this is wading into new territory.

It is not legal to convert your weapon to full auto no matter how much you want to pay. The only way you can get a full auto/three-round-burst weapon is by buying a pre-1986 transferrable M16 for $7-12k. You can't register a new full auto.

Or by purchasing an RDIAS

Please point me in the direction of a $7000 M16! They're more along the lines of $11k-25k.

There is no way that you can legally "convert" your AR to fire full auto, unless you buy a registered drop in auto sear, or a lighting link & they're around $15k-17k & $8k-11k respectively. Right now, anything in the M16 family of weapons is though the roof.

Converting an AR to full auto will get you 10 years & $250,000, so I'd suggest dropping that idea right now. Just trying to give you a heads up.

Like the other posters said, you can't "convert" your AR.... but you can buy a transferable MG/ Lightning Link/ RDIAS off of one of these websites:

Subguns

Strumgewehr

or you could just buy one of these:

SildeFire Solutions

I should have phrased my question better. I am aware of the RDIAS system. I was curious if there was a similar system that did three round burst over auto capability. I have dealt with a class three dealer locally before and just haven't gotten on the phone with them. I work for a handgun manufacturer, and understand the process my distributors go through to provide police agencies with our weapons. I have a look out of M16's already, I just wasn't sure if I could build one up like with SBR's and just wait out the approval process. I this full-auto capability is nice and all, but three round burst weapons I have fired seem much more interesting.

3-Round burst can be done with a RR or a RDIAS. I don't hink it can be done with a RLL.

Don't bother with 3 rd burst. You can shoot 2 or 3 rd bursts with FA with a little practice, even single shots, just using some trigger control.

In the AR-15 family, burst control is provided by the fire control group, which can swapped out. There are versions available with just semi, semi and full, semi and burst, and also a couple with semi, burst and full (called "enhanced" FCGs).

The lightning link doesn't do burst, but RDIAS or RR will.

Also be aware that the AR burst mechanism doesn't reset like the HK or FN burst mechanisms. If you let off early and fire a 2 round burst, you'll get a single shot the next time you squeeze the trigger.

No. You have to buy an already-existing MG or conversion device that was made before the cutoff date in 1986.

Burst is stupid, an invention of military and police administrative types whining about ammo usage and liability.

Que the photo of the guy holding up his trigger finger, and substitute "this is my burst control".

The 3 round burst of the M-16A2 is the dumbest thing in the world. Don't waste your time, just go full-auto and practice until you have good trigger control.

This is true. Plus it has a horrible semi auto trigger pull

There is a reason why M4s are 3 RB & M4A1s are FA

I like burst limters, I have seen too many times what was meant to be a short burst turn into a long burst because of loss of fine motor control in combat.

I have looked into this as well, why can't you just buy a full auto trigger group paired and an m16 bcg and fill out a form one for building a class 3 firearm?

the reason I ask this(i know i know) I watched the zombie episode of sons of guns and their m16 was built in the shop. They began to say how to make a full auto and started milling and went to a cutscene because they "couldn't show that on t.v. But I thought there weren't supposed to be any mgs made after the ban?

Sons of guns is a licensed manufacturer. They pay thousands of dollars a year to be able to make what they want and sell it to police/military. They can make new full autos all day long if they want, just not for the general public.

Fair enough, so civilians can only own a pre 86 mg through the tax and appropriate forms an procedures which makes pre 86 full auto stuff a da** gold mine for the seller.
