I saw that on their website. I like the idea very simple and easy to use.

This looks very interesting, although it will require removing the iPhone from the Otter.

ETA: FLIR M24 has the same ocular assembly as PVS-14.

Saw it today. Cool idea but a little pricey for it. Still, looks like it worked well when I saw the demonstration.

What price were you told?

The only information I could find says price release is scheduled for 1-23-12.

I'm buying one also unless they are $$$$$$$$.

What is the projected price point? Hopefully, USNV won't try to recover their R&D costs on the first 10 units and make the price prohibitively unreasonable.

Was told $150.00 at the show. It is a nice product and neat idea, I just think onefiddy is a little high for some molded plastic. Others thought the same. I think the price will come down some eventually.

Their site says it's going to be made from "aircraft aluminum" and anodized in NorCal. Wonder if they just had a rapid prototype version there? Anyway, $150 still seems too steep to me, though it looks pretty neat.

$150 seems to cheap to me I guess everytime I get the wallet out to buy something NV or thermal it always seems much higher than $150 .Plus if that is MSRP on the website I am sure it could be bought for alittle less if you call. I have bought several items from USNV over the years they have always gave me fair pricing when you call and if I have had any issues after the sale they have taken great care to make it right even if it wasn't their fault. I also read on their website news that USNV was selected to be a L3 tube distributor one of only two in the USA. I assume they will be carry more L3 products/tubes now.

If it works as well as they claim, 150 is a steal. I'd be surprised if it came in that low.

Felt like plastic to me. After all it has to flex a little to go around your phone and I think aluminum would be hard on the plastic phone housing. I briefly held it and my first impression was plastic but I could be wrong as I had it VERY briefly. Good product but I feel the price will come down. It is just a adapter to hold your phone securely in a 14 eyepiece. Great idea but just not a 150 dollar product from what I saw. Then again, value is always in the eye of the man that needs one.

Ok, I went back for a second look and was wrong. It is aircraft aluminum and the show price was 100 bucks. I did not look at how it attaches to the 14 eyepiece in detail. It appears to have threads and you would unscrew your eyecup ring to thread it on. Being aluminum and 100 bucks at the show I think that is decent. Just hope the price-point stays at $100 after the show.

Looked like it attached securely and worked well. He said it was also available for other phone models but I did not get the details.

Wonder if you could blue-tooth the iPhone attached to another device such as a iPad or another iPhone ? It would be convenient to transmit the video signal and observe remotely, e.g. from a concealed location.

You do realize that the poms are doing this already don't you? They fit low-light CCDs behind their dayscopes and the camera to the side of the dayscope with some decently powered infra-red illumination and then they look at the screen.

It works pretty well for some of them but in any event they usually find it a cheap alternative to intensifier based NV for shooting pests up close. Though I think they are getting good results well over 100 yards too now.

It's a pretty cheap way to do things but it does work and if you use enough IR light it works quite well.

I already have a PVS 14 so the cost for making my heartbeat sensor won't cost too much. I wish I could mount my thermal to my rifle but it's too big

Heartbeat sensors actually do exist. I read somewhere they are used to detect humans at border crossings or other checkpoints, but they attach to the vehicle and sense the tiny vibrations.

I can see the needle of the scale move to my heart beat when I step up to check my weight, so I can see how this is possible. Long-range detecion though will remain in the fantasy realm of the Modern Warfare game series.

I picked one up at the show for $100 and it included a PVS-14 camera adapter with a step down ring to thread onto the included iphone case. So there's an included $40-50 item. I'll take some photos tonight and you can get a better idea of how it goes together.

Heartbeat sensors don't detect vibrations per-se - they detect minute movements - such as your heart beating. They go through matter pretty well.

They are about the size of a small briefcase and use UWB ( Ultra Wide Band ) frequency scans and phased arrays and synthetic apertures and work like radar - they will show the location of the movement too but are short range and they are also known as "See through walls radar" - They are particularly good for finding survivors in rubble after an earthquake or building collapse or for determining the location and number of individuals in a room prior to entering in the case of military operations.

eg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPnGtKfDD9E
and : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ot6J_Aoj9XY&feature=related
and: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=mHaCEXiqFbA&NR=1

If I recall correctly, they had to change the US FCC laws to make these things legal to manufacture...

David

Yes, same diameter lens on a 7 as on a 14. The 7 lens is longer but that won't affect anything.

Here's some quick photos of the adapter and a couple quick picks through it with the daylight filter still on.

Case front

Case back

Step down ring to mount from the standard PVS camera mount ring to the Iphone case

Step down ring mounted on the standard camera mount

Iphone case screwed onto the step down ring

Sample shots

Oso, have you tried it with an M24 yet? It would seem like it should work mechanically (my specialty) what with the same ocular lens assemblies, but not so sure about photographically (your specialty). Maybe we can try it out on the 11th, if not before?

I've not tried it with the M24 yet. But one thing I've noticed is that multiple ppl can be looking at the iphone screen at the same time vs one looking through the PVS eyecup at a time. Great demonstration devise.

That might come in particularly handy when checking out 640x480 and 320x240 M24s side-by-side.

The application that I'm thinking is remotely covering multiple avenues of approach for a small team....3 or 4 of these set out and then pumped back to an iPad. Thermal would be great as well....there's kit out there that already has this capability but this would be ideal for a small LE team that doesn't have access to all of the bells and whistles.

This.

Great idea this adapter is but I just have a hard time paying that kind of money for something I can make in under 30 minutes in my basement. Yeah, won't look as nice but will function just as well.A Little Krylon and I can make it purty.

I have to agree....great concept but let's face it, it's a couple small pieces of Aluminium with some threads. $150 is way too steep. Price point for this should be around $29 - $39

While I agree in Principle, what in the NV world is that cheap?
