Find some CT area shooting forums. Here is a start:

Nighttime shooting is inherently more dangerous. I'd be nervous shooting at night with anyone who hadn't been checked out very well to be squared away. Especially a comp where people were running around in a hurry.
Lots of sites have local sections and I'm sure there are some New England specific forums. Ask around and go meet some people. Attend some local shoots. Worked for me!
Of course, the first step is to be VERY proficient with your day guns to begin with, very proficient.

Get trained up with these first and practice, practice and practice.
Then get get trained up with NV along with people you know. Dedicated NV shoots is great fun with folks who are also switched on, this is where the fun really begins. But by all means, do this in progression as this will take some time.
