Any recent purchasers here of an ITT PVS-14 from GG&G?
I've read the archived threads on where to buy, pros, cons, etc. I have not made my mind up yet between TNVC and GG&G. It's one or the other. That's an aside though. At this point I'm just wondering whether anyone here has purchased an ITT Night Enforcer package from GG&G within the last year, and if so, if they would be willing to comment on their experience. I would also be interested in the specs of the units received and if there were any notable center region blems.
Thanks in advance.
I haven't purchased NODs from GG&G, but just about everything else...I've been happy...trying to head there for some parts in the next couple of days.
If your local (AZ) you can stop in and see 'em.

Has this been your personal experience with them? It does not echo mine. In fact, my experience was exactly the opposite, and I live halfway across Tucson from them, a 15 minute drive. This was about 6 years ago.
I asked them if I could pick up a USP light rail since I'm about 15 minutes from their location, as they wanted to charge me an exorbitant amount to ship it halfway across town. I was told in no uncertain terms that it was impossible and that I wouldn't be allowed in the door as at any given time there existed the possibility that any number of super secret squirrel operator types could be there and I did not have the clearance necessary to pick up my $50 part. Seriously, that was their excuse, that there could be DeltaCAGRangerSEALs around and I wasn't cleared to be around them. As ridiculous as it sounds, that was exactly their excuse. While a simple, "we are not open to the public" would have sufficed, they came up with that ridiculous excuse to make themselves sound important. Since then, I haven't given them a dime of my business and will continue to patronize their competitors.
OP, buy from TNVC, you'll know exactly what you're getting and get the best service on top of that. I try to buy local whenever possible, in this case I refuse.

I actually had the opposite experience with both GG&G and TNVC. GG&G told me they would let me look at the floor model if I came over (I was serious about doing it).
TNVC didn't even let me finish my sentence when I asked to come over. He cut me off and said "NO...Internet Only." in a stern voice, as if I was coming over to knock him off. Anyways it left a bad taste in my mouth.
Edit: I know this forum has a lot of loyal and devoted TNVC customers. I am just being totally open and honest about my experience. And please don't stop answering my questions.
OP, I was in the same scenario right before christmas of 2011. Although GGG is a stellar company, they do not specialize in night vision. That being said the GGG rep told me when I called him to get the best possible price that even though it was cheaper than TNVC he did not stock any units and ordered them individually as the company required them. From what I have understand, because TNVC sells so many units they generally get he cream of the crop in terms of specs from ITT and correct me if I am wrong, but are one of or the only dealer that can send a unit back to ITT just because they do not like the specs for it even though the unit may work fine. Also not to mention that TNVC is a stocking dealer for what they sell. I guess what I am getting at here (and it has been said numerous times before) is that when you buy from TNVC you can trust you are getting an excellent unit with good specs and are not just getting stuck with any ole "within spec" unit that the lower volume dealers happen to give you... just my .02 I ended up going with TNVC and even went with the hand select option... well worth it my friend, whats another $100-200 for peace of mind from a night vision specialist like TNVC when you are already dropping 3200 or better?
I purchased my PVS-14 from GG&G about two and a half years ago and it has one small blemish near the edge of the FOV. It also has a few very small blemishes that aren't visible unless you're really looking for them. My next door neighbor bought one shortly after I did and his is very clean with only a couple of very small blems. Another friend just bought one a couple of weeks ago and although I haven't seen it he said he can't see any blems at all. The only negative thing I can say is that due to the way they order them from ITT the delivery time is a bit long. Overall I don't think you can go wrong with GG&G if that's who you chose to buy from.

could be they couldn't let you come buy in the store because of zoning issues? I'm looking into opening an online store out of a warehouse and part of the bylaws of the industrial park is no retail sales at all, its got to be all through the computer. They don't want people coming in and out disrupting other businesses I guess.

Thank you sr642. This is exactly the type of info I was looking for.
How long was it between the time you sent payment in and received the unit? Regarding the blem near the edge, do you think that is something within the range of normal or something that sets this apart from other units on average?
I haven't recieved my PVS-14 from GG&G yet but I can give you some dates and info. I called and ordered mine on the 5 March and they "put me on the list." Then I sent them the certified funds and called on the 8th or 9th to verify that they recieved the payment. I spoke with Shane Worley there who handles the night vision end of it. He seemed to know what he was talking about and a lot about night vision and the night enforcer line. I gave him some specs what I was looking for and he said based on the last batches he's seen comming in that those specs wouldn't be tough to find. He even read me the specs of one they had in their safe that was on hold waiting for a guys check to clear and I'd have bought that one. We talked for about 15 min and he told me about GG&G's history with ITT, and gave me the back story, they go way back.
When I ordered on the 5th that guy said it would be 1 1/2 weeks till they got some in. Then when I called and talked to Shane he said about 2 weeks out. I called on friday the 23rd and they said they're hoping for some time mid week. Shane said they ship from CA so that's only 2 days from there to GG&G then he puts the mount rings on and shipps em out same day he gets them. When I called friday they didn't have any tracking info from ITT yet. Shane is going to call me when they get the shipment in and he has picked a unit out for me to read me the exact specs and make sure I'm ok with the tube before it ships so you do know what you're getting before you get it. The only bummer so far about the deal is waiting for it to get here, so if you're in a hurry I'd buy from a stocking dealer. I'll update this thread when I get more info and the actual specs of my unit.
If you request a certain spec tube/system and its not in stock sometimes you end up waiting. I have a L3 tube on order now waiting for one to arrive in my spec request sometimes it takes up to 30 days. I bought two ITT pinnacle tubes with min spec I requested had to wait a few weeks but it was worth it in the long run. I like to build my own systems if I can its just fun and I save alittle money in the process plus I take alot of pride in my builds using not but the best parts/tubes so when I am done I know I have a great top end system.
Just wanted to update. I got a call from Shane on Thursday 29 March. He said that he called ITT to see why they hadnt shipped the Night Enforcers yet since GG&G usually gets them with in 2 weeks he said. He stated that ITT had a big gov order get pushed through and was way back ordered. They told him it would be mid April before the back order was cleared and they shipped to GG&G. Not the news I had hoped to get when I saw he was calling but I don't mind waiting for the guys who really need them to get theirs first. Shane said that there were 15-20 guys who had a set on order with GG&G and he was trying to make calls to let everyone know why the delay. Gotta at least appreciate a status update call.
So you loan them money and when they get enought orders they have itt drop ship thm to you?

Seems the case to me. Sad...
I don't know of any night vision shortage. I can get whatever I want whenever, as long as I have the funds to buy it.

No. My understanding is that they don't charge until they ship.

TNVC will ship to me the next day I pay. Sometimes it ships the same day I pay. Tying up my money for weeks on end is a loan. They may not charge my card but I bet they put a hold on the money and if I write a check the funds are payable whenever they cash it. Weeks to wait?? Unacceptable for a night vision scope of unknown specs. My .02 . I am not a dealer and can have you a nice 14 in the mail this morning. If GG&G takes close to a month to secure one that is bad customer service in my mind. YMMV.

Seriously ?? I always thought shipping time and customer service was an important part of any transaction. If I am wrong maybe my understanding is in need of assistance. I am willing to listen to any advice you have for me.

See, that's the issue. Your advice, thoughts, and impressions were not solicited, yet you feel the need to give it. Had I asked whether to go to TNVC or GG&G, then by all means expound. Had I asked about your experience with TNVC, then by all means go on.
But all I wanted to know was how things went for people that actually purchased units from GG&G recently. As I understand from your comments, you do not fall into that category. In a different context, your thoughts would be appreciated, but here, they pose a distraction and risk taking the thread off topic. I really do not want to hear whether you think giving payment ahead constitutes a loan, or whether you think delay is justified. It's irrelevant to the inquiry.
TNVC is great. I already know that. I just want to know more about GG&G based on actual experience, not editorials and speculation. Make sense?
Although it is not the most popular move in this forum, I purchased my PVS-14 from GG&G last year and had a great experience. Of course, I can only speak of my interaction with them. When I placed my order I was told to expect a slight delay in shipping of about a week, but in actuality my unit shipped within about 3 days after placing the order. Although I don't have my specs on me, I did post them here to get feedback from the group and the consenus was I have a good unit- in fact, somewhat above average. There was no hand select option so maybe I just got lucky, but to answer your question I was pleased with the transaction and the price was great before even considering the included QD mount.
You have to keep in mind that TNVC is preferred head-and-shoulders around here and from what I've seen threads like yours seem to frequently get derailed as shown above. I can appreciate the support TNVC gives this site and sub-forum, and I do plan on making my IR laser and accessory purchase from them, but some around here seem overly enthusiastic to point out any flaws or shortcomings in other dealers. I don't know why GG&G has delays in delivering product, but in my mind if they are up front about that when you place the order and you accept those terms then so be it.

By the way, no center image blems. I do have a small blem in the outer margin of the FOV at the 7 o'clock position.

We were commenting on what 99andover said about his experience with GG&G's PVS-14 supply or lack there of and shipping times. That seemed pertinent to the discussion. If you feel it is not by all means micro manage your thread as you see fit. Sorry for any distraction and I won't comment or help in your thread.
I don't mean to start a pissing contest about my dealer is better than yours but I'd like to update the OP on my GG&G experience. I got a call from Shane Worley yesterday that the PVS-14's had come in. He had selected a unit for me and wanted to make sure that the specs were ok and acceptable to me before he shipped it out. The unit he picked exceeded all of the minimum specs I gave them when I originally ordered. The unit he selected:
Photo cathode: 2234
SN: 29.4
Res: 64
Halo: .96
FOM: 1881.6
Blem free when looking at a while wall with the gain turned up.
I didn't write down the rest when he called but it sounds like a top performer to me. I was happy with those specs and told him to get it in the mail to me, it should be here Friday. The reason I went with GG&G is because the unit was $400 under MSRP, included a $228 mount, $40 case and he hand selected a unit that exceeded my specs at no cost so that saved $290. If you add all that up its $958. I did have to wait 5 weeks, which was longer than I'd hoped for and longer than usual Shane said, but if I had to save up the $958 dollar difference I'd be waiting 6+ months. Now get here fast friday!
I haven't heard back from Brant with GG&G. He's been pretty hit and miss. I guess Shane is supposed to be their NV guy, but Brant's e-mail signature says "Sales Director." I don't know how they can run a business that like. I am becoming disappointed with their service at this point.

Wow, nice unit.
