I have a CMMG lower in 308 and I would like to take
some of the metal off and make it more personal...
especially the front corner of the magazine well ( its
a bit too square and its a sharp corner )...anyway,
if I take some of the metal off then the lower has to
be re-finished / or hardened...any suggestions of a
coating / finish / hardened coat that I can do at home...

Duracoat makes a DIY kit. Also, hell krylon is always there when you need an old trusty friend

Any ofthe coatings can be used at home. Personally I'd recommend using a thermal cured coating such as CeraKote or KG GunCoat. Something small like that can be cured in a toaster oven out in the garge where the smell will no PO a significant other.

Cerakote also make an " Air Dry " formula that doesn't need to be baked. I just used it two weeks ago and it came out great.

Thanks mod for pointing/moving the thread to the right place.

Also thanks guys for giving me some ideas...I would love to
use the cerakote but it looks like I need to buy a sand blaster.
Then again, I probably need to invest in one anyway. Any
advise on what to get for stripping small sizes like the lower.

Just to make sure that I can take some of the metal off on the
receiver...can I do that before applying any of these coats?
