Help-First firearm purchase, no clue how ordering online/ship to FFL dealer works.

So like the subject states, i am probably going to be buying my first firearm (Larue OBR Hybrid AR-15), which i bet will not be in any store near me, so i will want to order it from the site. However i have no specific clue (just a general assumption) on how ordering online, and getting it shipped to your local FFL dealer works. I assume you need to find a dealer, have a conversation with the owner or a employee about having a gun shipped to them so you can buy it. I am just not sure on the specifics..on what the paper work would be, or where you get it (from the FFL or when buying the rifle online?)

So if there is a helpful "how to" thread already on this site, feel free to link me to it, but i looked and couldnt find one. If there isnt, can you just help and tell me how it works?

UPDATE: Read most recent post by me down below to see new question. It is the one regarding WA state's Ban.

Before you place you order find a local Fl (gunshop) that will do transfers (most charge between $20-50)

In Colorado you choose a local FFl, and then Larue will have you fax the FFL info down to TX.

Once approved, you pay larue, he ships to said FFL, you go in pay you $20 and take your gun home

So by fax FFL info to Larue, is that like paperwork i get from the gunshop? Or just their location and a few other tid-bits?

Go to your HTF and ask about FFLs near you.
Check transfer prices first, some gunshops are very expensive.

Many private FFLs charge $25 or less.

Decide which dealer you want to handle the transfer.
You order from LaRue and pay them, tell them who the dealer is.
The dealer sends a copy of his FFL to LaRue and they ship to the address on his FFL.
Then you visit the dealer and complete the transfer.

1) Call around to local FFL's near you, and ask what they charge for a transfer.

2) Shop online for what you want to buy. Purchase it.

3) Copy the fax number from the website where you made your purchase. Also copy your order number.

4) Call FFL you chose, and tell them you made a purchase.

5) Provide them the fax number from the website, and request they write your order number on the copy of FFL license they will be faxing.

6) You are done. You will receive a tracking number from the company you purchased from, and can track when it is delivered to your FFL. Most FFL's also make a courtesy call to let you know they have it.

7) Go to FFL. They will charge you a fee ($25-$50 typically) and a use tax on the item.

HTF is hometown form.

Mine has a sticky of FFLs that do transfers, or start a thread and ask for reccomendations.

Seems like a lot of the FFL's where you can have a gun sent and buy it from (when i Google Earth'ed the addresses) are peoples homes. I am aware that people can get a license so they can sell guns etc from their home, but still as a first time buyer that would be weird lol, i'll definitely be looking for a nearby gun store.

Question, Larue Tactical has just added this to their gun pages site descriptions:

Below, are the individual “Ban State” exceptions to our standard rifle configurations:
LaRue Tactical Rifle customers need to check their own State, County, and City laws to determine the legality of rifles with these features.

CALIFORNIA:
- LaRue Tactical Rifles ship with fixed (Bullet Button) magazine configuration, and 10-Round Magazines

CONNECTICUT:
- LaRue Tactical Rifles ship with pinned and welded Muzzle Device, Fixed A2 Stock

HAWAII:
- LaRue Tactical Rifles ship with 10-Round Magazines

MARYLAND:
- LaRue Tactical Rifles ship with 20-Round Magazines

MASSACHUSETTS:
- LaRue Tactical Rifles ship with pinned and welded Muzzle Device, Fixed A2 Stock, 10-Round Magazines

NEW JERSEY:
- LaRue Tactical Rifles ship with pinned and welded Muzzle Device, Fixed A2 Stock, 10-Round Magazines

NEW YORK:
- LaRue Tactical Rifles ship with pinned and welded Muzzle Device, Fixed A2 Stock, 10-Round Magazines

WASHINGTON:
- No Short Barreled Rifles (SBR’s), or barrels less than 16.1” in total length.

I personally want the 16" OBR Hybrid, will that be a problem? Or are their 16" rifles considered "16.1inch"?

Really weird, i swear last time i looked (2 weeks ago when their description was not as detailed and much shorter) WA was not listed as a state with any "Bans". Either is new to their site or WA state just passed the law.

UPDATE: Im 99.9% sure i just found the answer to my own question here in the 2011 Larue Brochure: http://www.laruemedia.com/LaRuePDF/Brochure_pdfs/LaRue_Rifle_Brochure.pdf It says the 16" is 16.1".

Go to the gunbroker site, and look at the info for buyers section. You input your zip code and they list transfer FFL's for your location. Thanks to their listings I found a great guy who lives literally 3 long blocks from my house and only charges me $20 per transaction, EVEN the times three weapons at once were involved!

I would love it if anyone could confirm that the "WA STATE" ban of less than 16.1" doesn't affect a 16" OBR Hybrid? I just want to be doubly sure.
