I picked up a Benelli M4 today, it has a lot of wear marks on the outside of the receiver. Not necessarily scratches, but on the corners where the finish has rubbed off.
I tried gun blue but it didn't do anything. I also tried Birchwood Casey "Aluminum Black" and it didn't do anything either.
What is material is the receiver made out of AND is there any touch-up product that will clean the metal up?
What is the finish on the receiver, paint, parkerize, or?
How much would it cost to have the receiver professionally redone? Any places in Las Vegas to have it done locally?
I just purchased a Beretta 1201fp and it is well worn on the outside also. I was planning on asking a simuliar question and plan to duracoat or like the gun.
i vote leave it with some wear

Aluminum oxidizes fast. You need to hit the area with 600 grit sandpaper and clean with alcohol. Use the Aluminum Black stuff fast. That has worked for me.

+1. Worked on a ding I put on my M4.
Show me a new looking gun and I'll show you a gun owner who doesn't know how to use it.
Your M4 is going to show wear if you use it. This is a good thing.
