A buddy of mine just bought a 6.5x.284 and can't find a good source of ammo for it. I looked through the industry partners on here and only found one dealer that carries it and they are back ordering. Any body know a dependable source?
If he's shooting a 6.5x284 he really should be loading his ammo himself. It's time he just did it, especially for that caliber.
MidwayUSA has it, but he really should be handloading for this round.

In case it hasn't been stated before, he should be handloading for that cartridge.
I shot this caliber in competition for over 20 years. Also hunted with it for a season when my late wife decided to annex my 6.5x55 for her own uses. I still put about 50rds a month downrange for old time's sake. Been around hundreds of other shooters over the past couple of decades and never met one who shot factory ammo.
As stated, it's a handloader's cartridge. Factory ammo might be great, but rifles of this caliber are notoriously picky about loads and you pretty much have to tune your loads to to the rifle for maximum long-range accuracy. And if you're not concerned about long-range accuracy, there is no reason to choose this caliber in the first place since it will burn out a barrel in less than 1500 rounds in most cases. It pretty much exists for only one reason...benchrest / 1000yd competition.
So I'm guessing the consesus is hand load. Too bad for him he doesn't. I told him ammo was going to be a bitch. He doesn't do any long range shooting, he really doesn't do a lot of shooting at all. We do hunt together on a place where shots can go out to 250 to 300 yards though. Maybe he'll get tired of paying way to much for factory ammo (when he can find it) and give me a shot at it to see what I can get out of it.
ETA: I don't know how I missed the 11 results on midway. My search came up with one flavor of norma that was out of stock.
