Very happy with my new YHM SS Phantom QD

I finally got to shoot my YHM SS Phantom (I went offshore right after I got it) and I am extremely pleased. In fact, it suppresses better than I had expected. I used it at an outdoor range with some friends so I could hear it close up and from a distance.

Unsuppressed the noise from my 11.5" barrel is slightly irritating even with earplugs AND electronic outer ear protection. Suppressed I could stand 10 ft behind the shooter with no ear protection with no problem at all. The difference was extreme. I was told not to expect too much from suppressed 5.56/223 and it seems my expectations were very low.

I know this isn't very scientific and I'm not saying there is anything wrong with others and that the YHM is the best of them all, but I am very pleased with it and will probably end up getting a second one in the future.

ETA: the reason for the electronic outer ear protection is to be able to listen to Rush Limbaugh while shooting. They have a "line in" that can be hooked up to a portable radio or player.

Did you get the 5.56 or 7.62 can? How is the weight?

I got the 5.56 can. It's certainly not light but not terrible. It might get too heavy if I had to carry it around for several miles.

That's pretty cool. Multi-tasking is certainly important as busy as life keeps us today.

Are you using a flash hider or a comp? I am going to order an AAC can either this week or next. I keep seeing where people suggest brakes for a suppressor, but when I shot my 10.5" with a BattleComp, the concussion was no fun at all. With a Vortex, it's not an issue.

Flash hider. I'm not aware of the benefits of the comp/brake.

I run the FH on some guns, but the break on my SBR. The break will help protect the first baffle of the can from the blast / gas cutting erosion of a SBR sized barrel.

The Phantom is a great can!

Phantom on my stuff:

Welcome to the club. I think everyone with a YHM can loves it....except for the Mite
