G19 or G17 as host?
Which one is proffered as a host? does one balanced better or is one quieter than the other as a host? I will be getting a octane 9 in about 8 months or so!! I will be using my P226 but cant decide which Glock would work better.
I am considering either a glock or a 226 for a 9 mm host. I will be watching this thread.
Not to derail this thread, but my 226 spits more gas and powder back at me more than any other host. Is it just me or is this common on 226s? Mine is a 1984 German model if that matters.
There are cans that were R&D'd with the G19, such as the Tirant. From tests I've seen, the G17 is slightly quieter overall. Since you can't conceal the rig anyway, I'd go with the G17.
Not alot of experience, only my G17 with a Trident-9, but I get quite a bit shit thrown back in my face with every shot.
I would think that the longer barrel of the G17 would help it be quieter since you have more length to burn powder before you enter your suppressor. I have barrels for both my 17 and 19 and so far, I can't tell too much difference between shooting both of them with a Trident 9. I prefer the 19 since it is my usual carry gun and it fits my hand the best.

I have the same setup (17 with Trident). I find that the blow back is really more ammo dependent than anything else. Fiocchi 158's dont have much at all, Remington UMC is noticeably worse, and American Eagle a little worse still. The Fiocchi is also the quietest, so it is what I prefer to shoot.
I have a 19 and two 17's, but haven't had a chance to pick up a threaded barrel for the 19 yet. Typically you will see slightly quieter numbers from longer barreled weapons, with the 17L and 34 being the longest. Reliable function is also more likely on longer barrels in a browning action pistol. Getting a 26 to function correctly is much more of a chore than getting a 17 working. That said, I haven't heard of many issues using the 19 as a host.
EDIT: Also, the longer the barrel the less baffle erosion you will see as you get a more complete powder burn and there is less of a sand blasting effect.
I suppress my G21, 30, and 19.....Im lookin for a deal on a threaded G34 barrel at the moment.
I prefer full sized hosts, but have barrels for most of my pistols.
I'm sure the OP will own barrels for his 17 and 19 before its all said and done...

A lot of it comes down to personal preference. I prefer the feel of the full sized grip. I have used my Trident on a G17, and G35 & G27 with 9mm conversion barrels. All ran just fine, but I ended up selling the G27 barrel since I almost never used it.
For those who are getting a lot of gunk blown back in your face, try a heavier recoil spring. The first time I shot the Trident on the G17 I had a light spring in other. The can/gun was loud and spit lots of crap in my face. Going back to the factory spring cured both of these. If you are getting gunk in the face with the factory spring, the barrel is still unlocking too soon.
