 USAS-12 barrel

I would like to know if there are any USAS-12 barrels out there for sale and/or would the new ones fit?

I have a registered USAS-12 and want to cut the barrel down some. I'd rather only do it if I had a spare barrel in case it affects the action and won't reliably function afterward, cutting off maybe an inch at a time. I know the barrel is considered the DD part but if I already own a registered one, is the barrel not just another gun part or would I have to buy a stamp for the additional barrel?

Just wondering. Thought I would check here before calling the Feds.

The barrel is not considered the DD part. The receiver is the registered DD, but the barrel is what defines it as a DD. You cannot register or get a stamp for a barrel.

A USAS-12 is a DD based on the "non-sporting shotgun" definition of Destructive Device. If you remove the barrel, it's no longer a shotgun. This is how many people avoided the need for registration. They're now sitting on a USAS-12 parts kit minus barrel.

Your changing barrels would not effect anything since it's already registered. You may swap out barrels all day long if you can find another, but this may be the problem you are facing. I know of no source for USAS-12 barrels, new or used.

Separately, having a registered USAS-12 DD puts you in a positive, but unusual situation regarding cutting the barrel. Since a Destructive Device does not have a barrel length specification in its definition, there is no minimum barrel length. You may cut the barrel to any length desired without any notification or approval of NFA Branch.

That is the boat I am in. I have even purchased one the "parts kits" just as you have described as I knew parts would dry up for these but where did all those barrels go?

Also not sure how short to go as I don't want to screw up it cycling but if I had a few extra barrels to play with I could figure out a happy medium as it just looks too long as it is.

I will also cut down my Striker-12 to about 10" someday soon.

I think you're going to have a helluva time finding a barrel. I've seen complete weapons, parts kits minus barrel and many individual parts for sale, but I've never seen a spare barrel as a standalone item.

As for function, I think you'll be okay to cut to about 3" in front of the front sight post, but that's not based on anything scientific. I would leave it alone, but I do understand the need to tinker.

I wouldn't hesitate to cut the Striker down to its proper length though...

I'm chuckling, as I had (past tense) TWO complete USAS-12 barrel assemblies up for sale and had a helluva time moving them. FWIW, one sold for $550 and the other $450.

Thanks for the price check. Where were they up for sale?...here on EE?

I watch GA, GB, AA, EE, Sturmgewher, Bower's, and a few local boards and still have not seen one.

I posted them all over creation. One sold on UziTalk and the other went on Sturm (I think..?).

Both were complete barrel assemblies with the barrel itself, the gas block, front sight, and included that LOOOOONG USAS gas piston. (The piston is longer than the barrel itself!) There was no rhyme or reason for the $100 price difference- I guess that the first guy really wanted the assembly. The second one languished before it sold at a discount. Both were lightly used (a few hundred shotshells through each, no idea of round count) and had no damage or rust. I ran a bore snake through each one once and that was that. The first went to Indiana and the second I don't remember.
