GG and Thompsons are $15k+

Spitfire and the other Thompson clones are cheap, but have no aftermarket support/spare parts,

Mac 10, well I have on in 9mm, so.

M50 Reising are cool but $100 mags suck. But this is the leader so far...

Is there a clone of the SW760 in 45 around?

What are some others?

Edit, bought a Sten MkII

There are stemple tube guns in .45. They are around $4k. I think I'd do a reising. Well, I know I'd do a MAC10 with a lage upper, but you said no to the MAC. The reising would be my 2nd choice.

The Stemples are pretty crude, but also decent shooters. The trigger is heavy and stiff, almost like your MAC.

Reisings are much-maligned, but really decent guns for civilian use. Easy to shoot well, accurate, and pretty reliable if kept clean. The Ken Christie mags aren't cheap, but they are worth it! As an added bonus, the Reising is a C&R, so if you have your C&R license, you can have it transferred directly to you from out-of-state, saving a transfer.

If you want a 45 sub gun similar to the S&W 76 / MK 760 look for a Stemple 76/45. It will get you close to what you want. Its full auto only and somewhat basic like a Sten gun. If your handy it can be made into something much better and only limited by your imagination.
I did many mods to mine and still tweaking it and working on a .22 conversion.

Its too bad that no one makes aftermarket parts for Spitfires. Its not a bad subgun if you do a few modifications to it.. IE: throw in mod'd GG bolt

They are a fun sub gun. BRP makes some pretty cool kits for them, not that you need it, but still neat he is able to do that with them.

Thanks for the kudos!

Its a general collection of ideas and what can be done. I tossed it up there for others to hopefully view and continue to make improvements. I thought I was wrapping my project up with a working 9mm conversion ( I have my converted 72 shot Suomi drum mag to tweak). Now I am fooling around with building a .22 LR conversion. Once I get that running or not I will tear everything down and re-finish everything to pretty it up.

There is also the PAWS ZX-7. Basically a .45acp Sterling that uses grease gun mags. I have never handled one nor have I even talked to anyone that has handled one. But it is another option for a "low end 45acp subgun".

Pass. I hate the feel of a Sterling or even a STEN. Just seems awkward to me with the mag out the left side

I have a Sterling carbine (one of the new ones WiseLite makes), and I thought it was a blast to shoot. There was no perceptible twist due to the magazine, and that magazine system is recognized as being as mag-jam proof as they get. I am firmly set on buying a Sterling SMG (a Mk 4) as soon as I can.

I think there should have been more .45 SMGs around when the ban went into effect, but the 9mm craze was pretty strong then. Too bad.

The Sten (Stench gun) is actually a fun gun to fire. That in a 45 platform would be interesting.......

Yup. I can't remember the first person to come up with the idea, but then Chris Humphries get heavy into making them, and finally Vector made it a regular offering...

All are hybrids based on .45 ACP MAC-family lowers mated to Uzi lowers. The are as ergonomic as Macs (as in, not at all) but the ability to use cheap, reliable GG mags is a huge plus.

They use standard Uzi .45 bolts and barrels –– you just can skip the pricey factory Uzi .45 mags.

UZI - And no Promag has out 20 round 45 magazines for an econmical price and there is always the GG lower. A registered receiver will cost you more but let you run 9mm, 357 sig, 41AE, 40 S&W and 45 with the right parts. I have a registered Bolt that is in 45 so I run 45 and 40 S&W wiht that and I was able to get that for substantially less than a regiestered recvr.

Which is fun and all, but isn't really a "low end" .45.

But the base uzi is like $6500-$8000. Where the OP was looking for a $3-$5k range gun.

Still good choices though. The stens are neat. I wouldn't mind one just because of the history behind them.
