Serbu or LAR Grizzly
They are similarly priced. Which one would you opt for and why?
I've never had my paws on a Serbu, but I have shot the LAR. It's an accurate weapon. My buddy had some trouble with the firing pin, it broke after we sent 5 rounds down range. LAR replaced it under lifetime warranty. He bought it used, so who knows how many times it had been shot before. He sold it for a Barrett..... then added a second Barrett. (yes I'm jealous)
Serbu,
You can custom order the BFG any way you want it, Mark will even put a match trigger in the BFG if you want one. It will increase the wait time but if you want one he can do it, same with a match grade barrel/chamber.
You get the LAR the way it comes, you cannot adjust the trigger and their muzzle brake is the worst on the market. For the weight you would think that the rifle wouldn't have that much recoil but it beats the shit out of you. I've shot .50's that were AR15/.50BMG set ups that have less felt recoil due to a better muzzle brake design.
So for about $2,500.00, what would you suggest as the best rifle?
Check out http://statearms.com/
they make a very accurate rifle for around $2500.

I can speak about the Serbu experience. It was smooth from calling in speaking to Mark and asking him a few questions before placing the order and it showed up showed up at my FFL two week earlier then expected. No complaints on the build at all and its a great rifle

I keep hearing that the LAR has a horrible muzzle brake and recoil, and have been taken to task for it, but I still don't see it. I own a Bohica and an LAR, and have owned an AR50 and of the 3, the Bohica (mk III) has the most recoil. The inability to adjust the trigger on the LAR is a definite downside. Since I was unable to compare my LAR and AR50 side by side I can't really say, but I didn't get any surprises when I first shot the LAR, it didn't feel any worse than I remember the AR50 from a few months previous with the same ammo. I'd put a couple hundred rounds through the AR50, enough to have a feel for it. I got my Nickle finish LAR new for $2300 about three years ago.
I've been happy with my LAR, but that's more to do with the fact that I can fire it LH comfortably.
Obviously I am not anywhere near as experienced with the .50 as many of the shooters here, but I am reporting my experiences and perceptions, so I'm cheerfully waiting for the folks who will be happy to tell me I don't know shit.
A guy I used to shoot with replaced his stock brake with an AR-50 brake on his Grizzly, he said the difference was about a 1/3 of what it was.

So this is the only proof you have? Please tell me it's not riffraff
Ah, no.
This guy used to come out and shoot regular with us and even he couldn't stand the factory brake.
