30 cal bullets from 50 cal primers!
Thought you guys might be interested to see what can be done with your spent 50 cal primers. I was able to turn them into pretty good looking 90 grain 308 bullets for use in 30 carbines or 32 H&Rs or the various other small pistols that shoot these small bullets.
I am still interested in any spent primers you guys may have to offer. Certainly not worth throwing out perfectly good spent primers when they could be given a proper send off at high velocity :)
Thanks guys,
Good shooting!

Have you tried using any live primers yet ?

What if a live primer was on the tip? Poor mans Raufoss!

I'll check the bench. I'm sure I have a few that haven't made it into the garbage can yet.
Thanks for sharing the photo – I was curious what your finished product was like.
Just curious as to how you get the anvils out of the spent primers. They are pretty tight after being pressed in by the decap punch?
Awesome work!
Apparently the primers are close to 7.62 mm in diameter.
The jacket they yeild in the photos is adequate for 90 grn bullets - but rather short for longer bullets.
I wonder if the primers could be sized down 1 mm and yeild a longer 6.5mm jacket?
BTW - how do the bullets shoot? They look very good.

Think of them as extended gas checks.
God I had wondered about this precise thing some 3-4+ years ago when I did most of my reloading of 50BMG.
I've got 900 or so rounds I loaded up over the course of a summer, all from once fired. The amount of spent primers I had rolling all over the garage floor was epic. Sad to say they are long gone.
Haven't shot any yet.
Some times the anvil is easy to get out. I was able to make the bullet just teh same leaving the anvil in the case. The pressure I use to make the bullet completly squishes the lead into any open space so not realy a problem leaving the anvil in the primer.
Yes a think it would be possible to reduce teh size of the primer to allow it to work in any caliber on down to as small as you like.
I'll post some results soon as I get a chance to shoot a few.

How about photos/video of the process?
