$6500 Barrett M82A1
Has anyone purchased one of the refurbished Isreali M82's from OOW?
For that price, I'm wondering if they're just beat to hell and wrecked, or if they're in good shape?
Anyone out there have one?
Thanks...
I am sure they are fine, but you can spot deals on like new ones for 7K-8K and I'd just assume know what I have. If it was 5K it would be tempting.
For that much? meh, spend the extra and get a new one.
Every time an 82 is fired, the barrel slides back through the bushing up front; if that area is not well lubricated, wear results, and group size increases. If that point is part of refurbishment, maybe you can get a 2 -3 m.o.a. rifle.
I haven't seen one, but I can't say I'd be willing to chance that much money on a rifle such as an 82A1.
We built those in the '97-'98 time frame. They will be well shot. The front barrel bushing and barrel stop area will most likely be well worn even though they are about Rc40 something each.
The barrels were hand selected to mate to the uppers and hand lapped in for accuracy then. An officer from the Israeli military Attache in DC came to inspect each lot of rifles. They were nice shooting rifles, each and every one of them. Not a dog amongst them.
How they were treated after they got over there is anybodies geuss. You roll the dice, you take your chances. The only way I would take one would be a paper target shot at 200m with it.
I just bought one one a whim. I'll post up how it shoots.

Were they specially marked?

No. The scope rail is a little longer to accept the scope/night vision combo. But there were no special markings.
Mine arrived in yesterdays mail. I went and shot it last night. Long story short, it was better than I expected, and I will be keeping it.
The bad:
The pelican case was pretty worn and only good for bump protection, as the seals were blown and lid was warped. The receivers had the amount of wear I expected for a 15 year old rifle.
The trigger was significantly more gritty than the 2006 M82A1 I was also shooting.
The buttstock is the older style which will not accept a rear monopod.
The Good:
It came with a brand new unfired 2010 date code barrel and bolt. Brand new springs and buffers, and brake.
The barrel fit the receiver as good or better than the 2006 rifle, which had about 200 rnds through it.
It came with two brand new factory mags.
It shot within spec, about 2-3 MOA with Tacticalammunition.com 647g ball ammo.
It functioned flawlessly, and everything operated as expected.
Regarding accuracy. At 50 yards, to sight it in, 4 of the 5 rounds were all touching, with one flyer (I wasnt really trying too hard). At 100y, a new 5 shot group did about 2" spread. Some of that may have been me though, as I wasnt really sandbagged in tight. I'll do a true accuracy test next time. I mainly just wanted to make sure it wasnt a 7moa pig. I didnt shoot farther than 100, because my flashlight wasnt bright enough to effectively light up the target at 200 onward.
Sounds like its a good buy for $6500 then. New barrel and bolt? As long as the rest of it wasn't run over with a truck, should serve you well for years.
Microsuck, was the one you bought the version with the replaced CQB barrel for the extra 1500 or so dollars they are charging for that option? or was yours the rifle that you pay $6500 for and it happened to have a NEW standard length barrel and bolt?
Sounds like a good deal if i came with a new barrel and bolt.
Wouldn't mind seeing some pics of the rifle just for shits and giggles.
It was a standard 29" rifle, just as pictured, it just arrived with a brand new barrel and bolt. Didnt buy any extras, just 6500 plus 40 to ship. I'll put up some hi-res pics when I get a chance.
