 A Southpaw shooting a AR50

I know Armalite use to make a left handed AR50 but finding one has become a challenge. How are the regular AR50s shooting left handed? The way the cheek rest is set up scare me. Any other suggestions for a southpaw? I would love to hear from some 50 cal left hand shooters.

Thanks,
Jeff

I shoot rifle left handed and shooting a right handed AR50 was very uncomfortable for me. I owned one for a while and just never could get comfortable with it and I didn't run across any stock conversions (this was about 5 years ago).

I now have an LAR Grizzly which is ambidextrous and a left hand Ferret50 that I LOVE. Dave at Spider Firearms made it up for me and even though it was over Christmas/New Years, from the time I paid to the time I had it in my hands was about 3 weeks.

My son who is lefthanded shoots mine and does fairly well with it. If I was a lefty though I would just buy a left handed model.

Here is a thread that went to archive but we talked about the same thing.

Thanks for the link. After reading it I think I'll keep looking for a AR50L. Maybe I'll get lucky.

thanks,
Jeff

It's what I've got.

Keep in mind also that any safety features on a RH rifle are also done with a RH shooter in mind...

It's cheaper, better quality and made to order Vs. the AR-50.

That is about 50% of the reason I wanted a LH .50. Having my face inline with that bolt handle always made me nervous when shooting my Bohica and to a lesser degree my Rem 700s. I didn't even gain the advantage I have with a smaller caliber RH bolt action of being able to work the bolt without taking my hand off the grip since the bolt throw on a .50 is so long I have to roll out of the way when I am shooting a RH rifle LH.

Well, you make a good point. A lot of shooters prefer to shoot a LH gun right handed so they can keep the trigger hand still. Also, I’ve met quite a few shooters who were left handed but right eye dominate, same with right handed and left eye dominate. Ours has the bolt far enough forward that you can shoot (and operate the bolt) from either side without moving your head and breaking position.

Funny thing, I went though all the trouble of building my daughter a left handed gun only to discover that she is right eye dominate. I had let her figure out her position on her own and she settled in very well behind the gun (picture below). But, she had the stock on her left and was trying to look down the gun with her right eye (not pictured). Tomorrow she is shooting for the first time so we’ll see how she finally settles into the gun.

Thank you!

Tuesday's shoot went great. She ended up shooting right handed and did quite well. The full story will be in the next issue of VHP.

This seems to be coming up alot here lately, is there a way for people to buy a lefthand stock and swap it out on a right handed gun. It seems like the righthanded versions are easy to find so converting it might be the key for alot of people.

No, unfortunately the left handed buttstocks (which aren't available yet) which have the cheek rest on the opposite side would interfere with the bolt.
