OMG, it was pure pleasure to shoot it, but the car we were using as a target wasn't so happy!

So what do these baby's run $$$, and what is ammo running? I am *not* a reloader, so milsurp or new would be my choice (and I know it ain't cheap these days...)

I have a 600 yard range available, so this might be a possibility....

Sorry to say but if you need to ask it may be out of your price range. Your looking at 10K for a M82 and glass, then $2.50 ish per surplus round.

Buy a quality cheaper bolt action like a Serbu.

I have owned several and rolled my own rounds but you need to have more than a couple of hundred yards otherwise it's really not worth owning.

I asked the owner of the one from the bullpup shoot what he had into it:

Gun + glass = $15k
Reloader = $1k
Reloaded rounds = $2 each

Those prices are high. You can get a BNIB M8A1 from Buds Gun Shop for $7995 plus anther $2k for rings and a Nightforce scope.

You can get them used for around $6500-7500 if you look in the classifieds sections of different websites.

I got mine dirt cheap from a local gentleman who was having a divorce and needed the cash.

It isn't, especially if I let go of a few unused toys. Last I knew .50 surplus was running close to $4 a round and I thought M82's were running $9-$10K so that is actually a pleasant surprise.

I don't mind dropping the cash on a quality firearm for fun, and 600 yards is OK- I liked that the recoil was a good push but manageable (I ahve shot bolt action .50's and they just were not fun at all), it got looks at the range, and the .50 cal makes swiss cheese out everything it hits. This would not a practical weapon for my use, but a *fun* one, and another notch in the belt on the bucket list- $10K is cheap compared to a sports car, and the M82 will depreciate a lot less than a car.

I have seen used ones for $6500 - is there anything to look for on a used one (excessive barrel wear, headspace issues, i.e. typical things that crop up?)

If I remember right he said he paid 8500 for the rifle and the rest was the scope. I know less than nothing about optics and over 1/2 dozen full autos and a .50 banging away I caught "1 of 5 in US when I got it" regarding the scope. Nice old guy who sure was proud of his baby.

You are pretty much on with the prices that some others have posted. You can get ammo cheaper if you have cash ready to go and are quick. There is still surplus that can be gotten for under $3 a round. I say go for it. I loved mine, just waiting for my M107A1 to get built.

Sorry Dawg180,

I apologize, when I read your original post I thought you might be a young kid who happened to have been lucky enough to be at the range when a generous .50 owner offered you some shots.

No problem at all, just to clarify I am the owner of Manticore Arms, and the Barrett M82 was one of the many toys we got to play with at the Bullpup Shoot I set up this past weekend (pics and info in the Bullpup Forum for those who aren't familiar with this annual event). I got to shoot for free because, well, I set up the shoot!

The only reason I asked here is the last time I price M82's was a few years ago and at the time .50 ammo was running $4+ a round. Just had no idea where the prices were, and instead of scouring the web I figured I would ask where the .50 guys congregated.

That being said, I have been accused of being "childish" by an angry woman or two, so I'll give you credit in that regard!

Buy it. Few things are as much fun. Buy a used good condition 82, use it for a couple of years and you can sell it for what you paid for it. All you'll pay for is ammo, which can be found for just over $2 a round if you search.

Are you guys in Il allowed to own guns? Esp those big nasty 50 BMGs? Sorry due next to cali, Il is one of the most restrictive states in the union that I know of. Hope you get one and welcome to the 50 BMG community..

yep, IL is good to go for 50BMG - barrett just introduced some new MAP pricing, so now is a good time to buy from people with some back inventory - I believe we have a few in the vault

I would love to, but at the moment I have to put the money into a few other things. If you aren't in a rush to sell I may hit you up in a month or two.

Did the MAP prices increase or decrease on the m82a1s?
