Barrett's 25 MM XM109
I read about this a couple years ago, And saw it being fired on Sniper's Inc last week.. practice rounds $100 apiece lord....
labeled the "25MM payload delivery system" .. You think us commoner's will be able to get one?

I think that thing would be fun as Hell
to play with! BOOOOOMMM!!!! as big as the bore on this is I can see a type of Sabot round or some type of Shot gun type of round
if one needed such a round... Were the Hell's my damn checkbook?

Christ, that thing with API ammuniton = APC killer and maybe even small tank killer
It would be a DD just like the 20mm, but I doubt we'll ever see one sold to a civvie.

Those things were sooooo fun to play with when we were first playing with them. We built up 25 or so for the Army to play with. I think they bought a few more but nothing else came of it. I have a dummy round around here someplace.
The system was just a new upper, replace the bolt in the carrier and a new plastic curved mag. It was pretty damn accurate also considering it was a 1" projectile.
I probably fired about 100 rounds through the prototype. Then a magful through each of the initial 25 guns to the Army.
What was the range of weight of the projectiles if you happen to remember?
The only ammo we had on hand was a solid aluminum projectile. Was the standard blue practice/training round.
That was all the Army had furnished.
Don't remember the weight. It was back around 2003-04 when we messed with it.
I thought that was set up for the Land Warrior program and was designed to be shot a certian distance that is known and then identified with a thumb knob to tell the round when to blow up. That way you could shoot someone behind cover by adding 2 yards past the berm they are hiding being and having the round blow up just as it passes over them. The same for blowing up in a room. I saw the sniper show where Ronnie Barrett spoke of it but didn't identify his weapon as being able to do that.

Doubtful. Armor penetration is all about velocity and projo construction (do some research on the pzb39, and compare itts 8mm round vs even a .50bmg). There's no way that round can get acceptable velocity for ap use. Not to mention the rather blunt ogive. Its nothing like the 25mm bushmaster on bradleys.
A round like that is more for HE, smoke, gas etc...

May have been the same round, but different concept in the xm109. No smart technology in the weapon.

I think you might be referring to the HK xm-25 grenade launcher(counter defilade target engagement system). They were also testing the xm29, 20mm airburst with carbine mounted under, and computer and rangefinder on top. Seems like they would be "cool" toys to have.
