So a while ago I picked up a MKIII upper from the EE.

Love it.
I set it up with a SMOS single shot lower and and ACE stock.....click....boom....fun!

But...I am completly anal and tore it all the way down to scrub it down and really clean out the bore for this spring's shoot.
So....I took off the brake and did my thing to get all the carbon and crap out of the barrel.

Now, I went to reassemble the thing and for the life of me, I was certain that the brake was threaded down to the shoulder of the barrel.
No matter how I "orient the start"of the threads, once it hits the shoulder, it is way crooked.

I know there wasn't a mounting nut threaded on before the brake like others I have seen...
I know it has a allen bolt to lock it down...

Did I miss something?
Do I need to really twist the brake on further to get that extra 1/2 a turn or will leveling it out and then tightening down the allen bolt be enough...even if there are still visible threads until the base of the brake hits the shoulder of the barrel?

This has such a punch, I really did not want to be concerned that the brake would wind off during shooting...

Thank you in advance...

The brake will sit a bit forward of the shoulder when level, atleast my MK3 does.

Srew it all the way on and then back it off till it is level and tighten down the allen screw. I used one of the pointed allen screws and got it tight and then took it off and took a punch and made a small indent were the allen screw touches the barrel. Now it will lock down better and it is easy to put back on quickly in the same spot.

That is a great idea!

I would have referred to the owners manual if it had any information on the break....other than the "never fire without brake in place" notice.

Well...I guess we have different brakes...not that it is a surprise.

My brake has a split ring milled into the end and the allen bolt simply closes the gap....it never touches the barrel.
It just tightens down on the threads to hold it still.

I put a few more through it and it has not moved so I am thinking I was just being over cautious.

Thank you for the help anyway...
