About to finish the LEO hiring process and wanna treat myself to a new edc... Think I've narrowed it down to a SOG Aegis TiNi blade or a Spyderco Paramilitary 2...thoughts?

This. Built like a tank.

Also look into some Emerson's.

As you are a cop, make sure you have a multitool on your belt first. You'll get far more use outta that than a single knife. The Spyde is a good choice, I don't have any experience with the SOG.

I have heard good stuff about the Para, but don't have one yet, on my list.

I'll give a third though to the ZT 0350, I LOVE mine!!

Get the PM2 in what ever flavor you like, you will love it !!!!! I have the all black out edition in the original CPM S30V steel and it never leaves my side and keeps an edge that is scarry sharp all the time, love this knife. The compression lock alone will keep you busy for days on end of opening and closing pleasure. In the future I will get a magical steel version, until then this is my precious.

I'll second the multi tool AND the Paramilitary reccomemdations. Both are very useful.

Thanks for the info guys...if I add that I am a hardcore lefty would that change any of the responses? Seems like I can change the pm2 to either or

I'm a lefty also the Spydercos can be easily opened with either hand. I have a Delica and Native 5 which I rotate as EDC. The native 5 is a real beauty and very well made. The PM would be of equal or better quality and would be my choice if it didn't exceed local laws.

No experience with the SOG.

Previous posters mentioned the ZT 0350. I have one and use it at work in construction it's been through drywall, rattan, 2x4, remove cement an is still going strong.

One consideration is why you would be carrying, it if you use it as an LEO you may need it for weapon retention which means you would keep it on your non dominant side (gun on left, knife on right in pant pocket) and would need to open it single handed the Spydercos and ZT can both do that, but the ZT has a flipper and assisted spring opening making it easier but could also be against your department policy so keep that in mind.

A good multitool would be a benefit to you as it could be your main work horse on your belt, while the folder would be more for 'get off me' situations.

But if you want a knife for off duty, the Spyderco Paramilitary would cover most task easily, ambidextrous, good steel, get it with G10 handles like the above and you'd be good to go.

ETA: This Benchmade would make sense if you were using it at work: http://www.benchmade.com/products/915

Think I'm gonna go with the pm2 thanks for the feedback..anyone know where I can get a deal on one? Also, does a black spyderco blade offer more protection from rust and what not rather then a sliver one?

Yes it does, but the blade is stainless steel anyways. If you lived on an island in the tropics it might matter having the blade coating(most indigenous tribes use carbon blades anyways fwiw). I haven't seen any problems at all with Spyderco's S30V with rusting.

somethings to think about.. From an officer POV

where are you going to carry this knife.. on your duty belt or in a pocket.. remember if your uniform does not include cargo pockets it is harder to get stuff out of your normal side pockets..
you also have the option as a lot of guys i work with carry in their trauma plate pocket on the front of their vest as a O shit knife...

i carry this behind my mag pouch

then i have a kershaw on me somewhere and somtimes another knife somewhere else... lol

ZT 0350 would be my recommendation as well. Best built knife for under $100 IMO
