I should get it tomorrow. This will be my first ESEE but I have a feeling it will not be my last. I broke my KABAR in November while building my duck blind. I hope the new knife can stand up to the work I will put it through.

A duck blind can be built with a ESEE Izula or ESEE 3, Go build a log cabin with the ESEE 5!

And if you do manage to break an ESEE, it has a lifetime free replacement warranty. Word.

Fuck it, I'll answer my own question. The difference is that I'll be owning an ESEE-5 soon, translated, order placed. It looks like a beast!

I missed your post about that question. Glad to hear you ordered the 5! From what I have read Randal ( owner of ESEE) use to work with RAT and he decided to part ways and start his own knife company and survival training.

So are the older RAT-5 knives as good as the new ESEE knives? I have a couple RAT-5's (real RAT's and not the ontario junk) with the older cordura sheaths made by eagle. Other than my Rob Bayley S4, they are my favorite knives.

Ontario used to make the RAT series knives for Randall's Adventure Training (RAT) owned by Jeff Randall and MIke Perrin.

They wanted different things, so Perrin and Randall started their own company, RAT Cutlery, in 1997. Ontario got upset about them using the name, so they changed it to ESEE, which is Escuela Del Surivval and something in spanish. RAT Cutlery used, and ESEE uses, Rowen manufacturing to make their blades.

An older RAT-3 would be made by Ontario, with an inferior heat treat and other shortcomings. A RAT-3 made by RAT Cutlery, or a new ESEE-3, are made by Rowen for the current company and carry the same badass warranty and quality materials and construction.

All of my RAT-5's are made by Rowen. Etched right on there. So are the RAT-5's made by Rowen as good as the newer ESEE knives?

ETA: Nevermind, I just re-read the last part of your post. Reading is fundamental.

Started with a 5 then bought a 4 and now I have two Izula's on the way.

A six pack a credit card and an internet connection make for a bad combination but damn those knives are great...

Knifeworks.com

$135.85 for the Izula and the Izula 2 includes shipping.

I got one with the handles and one without. Both are in "kit" which includes 550 cord, cord lock, whistle, flint rod, sheath and a few other things.

I order from the knife connection. I placed a order for my 4 and it was at my door in two days. Very good service.

I jumped onto the ESEE bandwagon in a huge way. I picked up an Izula, an ESEE 3 and 6. I might have a problem.
