I had the day off, and as usual I decided to try some crazy shit in the shop. I'm sure you have all seen a Spartan sword thanks to Hollywood, but here is my interpretation. I still have MUCH work to be done. Tons more grinding, filework, heat treat...ect. I'll post pics of the progress in this thread if anyone cared to see the updates. This is a quick crappy ipad pic just to give you all the idea. Better pics to come.

Edit. Forgot to add, Aldo's 1/4 x 2 1/2" 1095 steel. OAL is 29 inches.

That looks amazing. Is there any practical benefit to that shape? I'm guessing no, but maybe?

My opinion is that it throws the balance of the blade forward for more power to take off heads. I wasn't around when King Leonidas fought the Persians to verify, but according to Hollywood, this is the design of the Spartan swords. I just thought it would be fun to make....and it was. I'm already looking for new sword ideas.

It weighs in at just a hair under 3 pounds. I have been packing it around for the last few days just to get a feel for it. It's not too bad, but I certainly wouldn't be able to go to battle with it. One swing and I would be missing a leg.

Wicked grinding skills but that fillework is a standout. Amazing piece.

Thankyou very much! I had a really fun time making this...although my shoulders are a bit tired from holding 3lbs to the grinder. This was my first sword, and my first time doing any filework other than straight jimping.

The idea may be fantasy...but it will be fully heat treated and ready for duty.
