This will be my daily carry/utility knife.

ETA: What's the better steel for toughness and edge retention? I don't care much about rust resistance.

I think there is a version of the Vantage (Pro ?) with an S30V blade which is one of the better materials available.

Correct. I have the Vantage Force Pro and love it. The liner lock has more locking authority than my ZT, it's prettier than my Rift, and carries better than both.
