 Tomahawk reviews

So I've gone through all the pages of the blade forum and cannot find a review oh tomahawks. I've people posting pictures of their collections but no reviews. I understand that they vary in sizes from small like SOG tomahawks to larger such as Cold Steel and United. I've seen various reviews on the vendors websites, but I believe they are sketchy and aimed at pushing their product. I'd like to hear from people here who own them and the reasons they purchased them.

If I had that kind of FU money, I wouldn't be asking here. But thanks for playing!

i dont do reviews, but have a couple cheap ones. what are you looking for/use? they are fun. a saw and machete would be better. i now pack a folding saw and large chopper.

I actually have a Fiskars camp axe and a folding saw. Thinking of something more along the lines of CQB and learning to use it in conjunction with the combat knife I'm having made. But failing to use it in that capacity, it would serve as back up to my Fiskars, you know what they say two is one and one is none. I like the SOG because it is compact, the United and the Cold Steel, which I used to own, was just too unwieldy for me and lend itself more to two-handed work. At least that's my take.

I have a fasthawk cheap and tuff I have been throwing it and chopped with it. It is not what I would first choose for camping splitting wood and such, but for some smaller cutting/chopping and throwing it is tuff. I strap it to my pack and go.

I have an American Tomahawk VTAC, and it is a piece of shit. The bolt that holds the head to the handle snapped, and the head went flying. Cheap shit.

I've watched some vids on you tube...gotta admit that SOG Fasthawk looks promising. But that United just looks plain bad ass.

I didn't need the fasthawk but when I saw it at walmart for 20 bucks I couldn't pass it up and I love it. To bad they don't have a distribution deal so that others could enjoy it for 20 bucks. Not to many blades I have recieved as gifts made by or branded as united are not very good most I have had were regifted just to get them gone. Maybe these days united is better I wouldn't bet on it.

I have an rmj tactical shrike and absolutely love it! They are quite spendy but well worth it. Solid one piece forging that is tough as nails. They are on a 4-6 month wait though.

I cant stand the spike on the SOG hawks it is about as useless as it gets. That is why I am leaning towards the CS Spike Hawk and the M48.

What can you not stand a wicked spike once you grind it a bit to make it have better edges it sticks in almost everything while preserving your cutting edge? For 20 bucks I dare you to find somthing better in a tactical tomahawk.

If I had the cash I would be glad to have those fine tools you have posted, I am to poor these days for such things, but love the tools you have and understand why you prefer the others over the cheap fasthawk. The spike profile seem more useful on those compared to the fasthaw for sure.

My son gave me the M48 for Christmass. Love it. It is a menace. Takes a beating perfectly.

I was wondering how well the m48 would hold up under use. United is not really known for quality
