Stovepipe/FTE I'm out of ideas, help me

I bought a used 1st gen carbine from a gun shop a few months ago for $299 with 4 mags with the hopes to go SBR and do a few mods here and there. I looked it over as much as I could and could tell it had been messed with from all of the tool marks, but there was no damage to it so I took it home.

I took it out and it ran like crap. FTE/SP varied from every round to 1 out of ~4 rounds.

I've literally tried a dozen different types of ammo. I picked up a Savage MKII TRR and had already bought every type of ammo I could find to see what grouped the best so I had tons of different ammo to try. The HOT rounds like Stinger and Aguila Hypervelocity had less problems but still 1 in 6 or so would stove pipe.

I took it apart and did the screw mod with blue Loctite (including the under barrel set screw) and push pin mod which cleaned up the looks but did next to nothing for function.

I've searched as many threads as I could. The extractor looks and functions fine, the ejector is riveted and rock solid, all pieces on the bolt group look fine, chamber wall/barrel looks fine.

I cleaned it very well when I had it all taken apart for the screw mod and the action is very smooth.

Anything else to check before giving up on this thing?

Did you read through the stickies ? There is lots of great trouble shooting info there to start with.

I've read through them. Not every single page, because it's page after page of off topic posts and "thank yous" after the 1st page of the original topic.

Did you check to see if your barrel had rotated?
