I'm gonna try tuning my GSG-5 (rifle) to run CB Longs.
Hey guys!
Im always up for tinkering with my GSG, so this weekend I wanna see if I can get CCI CB Longs to cycle in the GSG5SD. Im gonna start with removing a recoil spring and run just one (like a 10/22). I have heard one GSG-5 spring is heavier than the 10/22 single spring.
I have spare new springs in case I need to tune em in length/revert back.
Im ok with running only CB longs through it with this mod. the rifle gets only subsonic ammo anyways.
anyone done this yet?
As for why, I like the quieter CB Longs.
if it works well, i will have a video/how-to up this weekend :)

MODEL
Part No. 0960
This is a 40 grain bullet (rather than the 29 grain cb) which will be much more accurate than the cb and have more cycling capability due to the added weight of the round. So don't lighten up that spring TOO much yet!
CCI Quiet
The only place I know of that has them in stock
I have a brick on the way, but I am looking to use these with a bolt gun or a 10/22 light bolt/spring combo I have. Will report back upon testing these!
ooooooooooh goodie!! i had no idea.
still 710fps, just a 40grn. gotcha.
im all about supressed sounds any way I can, thank you good sir for the heads up!

no problem sir! enjoy and report back!
I wonder if you are gonna have to order another set of recoil springs as you may have to cut them down to get it to function reliably I dunno if the round will cycle the bolt well enough without mods but I am curious as well.

not a chance that will cycle with stock springs...
I would think it will still be a tricky task, especially if the bolt has to be lightened up.
For anyone really interested (I hate to mention another forum

) there is a very interesting post about someone who, from what I know, was the first person to be able to get cci cb longs to cycle reliably in a 10/22.
Check it out here
I have 2 sets of new springs I am willing to chop to hell to try it out.
im not gonna lighten the bolt unless i order a spare first.
i am accustomed to "reworking things". I never leave my cars or weapons stock :)

grrr...extractor seems worn, and bolt has wear impact marks from the hammer in the rear. damn thing.
wouldnt extract/cycle .22 subsonics. its been acting weird lately...now i know why.
I will try out what I can...seems some of the .22 lr get stuck in the chamber...maybe buildup.
Test 1:
-removed 1 spring
-stock bolt
-.22 CB Long
short stroked on extraction:
gonna go for either 1 short or two really short springs next.
Spring lengths:
NEW: 3-7/8"
MINE: 3-1/2"
Test 2:
-cut single (MINE) spring to even with recoil rod & test.
test 2 results: still doesnt extract fully from chamber....at this point bolt is not helt into battery by much....and you can slide the bolt out of battery with your finger. you can also ride the charging handle forward and it will float out of battery because of too little tension.
imma hold off at this point...maybe find some lighter springs of OEM length.
(WORK IN PROGRESS POST, its messy)
Hammer spring tension is holding it at that point IMO
well, true. but the hammer WILL fall if the bolt is slightly out of battery....sooo....yeah getting close.
updates?
nothing yet. wanna try that new ammo.
busy with car stuffs this weekend.
dont worry im not the kind to start a thread and *poof* into thin air lol.
im around ;)
Im using the 40gr cb cci ammo in my gsg 1911
and was also thinking about modding the stock spring to see if it would cycle this ammo
because I have to hand cycle it, which I knew about but most of the time the extractor doesnt work so I have to press out the shell with a rod
I think I am gonna try this ammo in my single six ruger to see how silent it is and how powerful it is. I am curious to see if it can be made to work in any of these weapons to shoot semi auto with out hicups.keep us posted.

If you try that with the single six...you better have ear protection on... just my 2 cents from shooting colibri out of my six shooter
i cant see any way to use a spring that is light enough to cycle, but heavy enough to get it back into battery.
next step would be lightening the bolt. im not really gonna do that anytime soon. waiting on the new rounds to show up
I've been running one spring in my SBR'd suppressed GSG5 with standard velocity ammo for quite some time now. It works pretty well, but once the chamber gets dirty the bolt doesn't have enough punch to force a recalcitrant round fully into battery. I find it works best with ammo that isn't slathered in waxy lube.
i can run CCI SV all day.
im kinda mad that the Aguila subsonics i just bought jam in the chamber. my CMMG AR kit LOVES EM! :(
